When can we please have enforced template use in classifieds?

I'm sure others as am I getting tired having to sift through rubbish for sale posts that don't meet half the required criteria.

There is a couple of real doozies at the moment.

I'd like to see posts edited/deleted and replaced with just the template and a mod note on the post "please refill your post using template"

If the person just deletes the template or doesn't follow then delete the whole listing.

The template is active in the classifieds as of this evening, meaning every first post in the classifieds will have the template prefilled in the post and can be edited as required.

We hope this is useful as a reminder to people what info to mention in their posts. If we see continued posting of ads without the necessary info, we will be discussing ways of eliminating them. This could range from simply having the thread locked or deleted, to completely withdrawing the use of the classifieds for the "offender" for a period of time after an initial warning. Rest assured we will be consulting with our Club Members before implementing any such action.

Thanks for that I realize things have to be slowly phased in as alot of people won't get it straight up, but then it's very standard practice across across most forum classifieds.

It is good to see that rules are implemented softly, over at AL they implemented a pictures or deleted policy which was very confusing because if you didn't know and made a post without a picture your post would just dissapear (with no explanation from mods) making you think that your post didn't work so you would just relist it then you would get barred from the classifieds left sitting there thinking WTF happendd
Although I would like to see templates rolled out and thoroughly enforced I realize the need for a soft entry period of 2-3 months.

Does anyone at all follow these guidelines any more or even read them.
It seams to be the norm to bump posts within 2 days. Why should we ( the handful of members that follow the T&C's ) keep doing the right thing when most don't with nothing ever done to rectify it.

Not being a bitch just something I have noticed over the last few months.
Cheers.

I think you will find that alot of CM/Mods are in holiday mode and arent spending much time on here, so bumping etc isnt getting noticed as quickly and fixed.

I don't think it matters if the mods are on holiday or not.
If people don't follow the T&C's then it all goes to sh#t.

So because you pay your car rego and license do you think that you should be exempt from the road rules???
Total anarchy ... is this the solution you are proposing? The forum wouldn't even last a month without rules.

All you have to do is follow simple rules ....there not harsh or hard to follow and then everything would run smooth........but with comments like the 1 above what hope has any mod got ...... rules were enforced on you but you kept breaking them ....4 times apparently .

Just giving some feedback from a recent but regular user. That template is so easy to use,
people these days are just lazy. They dont realize that people looking for a particular
fish are going to look at ''FS Fish'' last.... By not describing the species and not taking
advantage of that template they not doing themselves any favours. Just by looking at replies
from ads, the ones that look more interesting and take the time get more views and replies by far.
So if you got time to read this, have an ad, didnt use the template, go back, edit it, and reap the reward.

Read the guidelines if your reply's fall into the not to do section then there is your answer. The mods don't delete posts for no reason. wink.gif
Cheers.

I'm sure we all have better things to do than syphon through all the crap in the classifieds because people can't be bothered making their posts easier to read!

It's good to see that some people are using the templates,

I do feel we need a simplified template that just works for everything,
These multiple templates I think make things a bit messy as alot of people are leaving too much of the template there when it's not needed.

I think a one template fits all is a better solution, extra info section on a template can cover in some of the detailed info that the basic template wouldn't cover.

Secondly I'm getting tired of the amount of listings with no prices.

In particular EOI posts where people are "fishing" for prices hoping someone might offer them a little more than what there item is worth.

I think a no price no listing policy should be very seriously considered, there is no legitimate reason whatsoever to not include a price in a EOI or FS listing it just causes unecessary bumping and unecessary exessive use of the pm system, it also wastes the sellers and buyers time.

Finally pictures, increasing amount of people are posting items minus pictures, In a some cases pictures are not needed, however tank setups vary greatly and pictures should be compulsory for any item that is non standard or is particularily old and condition of the item is best described by a picture.

The pcs classifieds is getting bigger and moving more quickly every month, but it is also getting clogged up with rubbish posts missing prices, information and pictures.

It's important to realise the pcs classifieds are free, if we cannot keep the pcs classifieds working properly we may have to consider charging people for the privilege of using it, since the privilege is regularily being abused in it's free for all state.

I've been using forum classifieds for my various hobbies for 14 years, and have seen what works and what doesn't I know the pleasure of a well moderated and set out classifieds and seen how they flourish when things are kept inline, I've also seen the rise and fall of classifieds that lack any standardization and strong moderation, the buyers stop coming as do the sellers.

A forum classifieds that is neat, tidy and uniform is easier for buyers to use, as such a tidy easy to use classifieds attracts more buyers, items sell quicker at higher prices.

At the end of the day the buyers are far more important than the sellers, and without one there isn't the other. We need to get more serious about the direction of the forum classifieds as an attraction for newcomers and experienced this gives the club more exposure and also increases the exposure of it's sponsors, therefore attracting more sponsors and in turn attracting more people to the club through it's sponsors.
