Wouldn't like to say for sure re: the body shape unless he ate v.well b4 he was captured on candid camera, but I do offer up an explanation for the vivid stripping.

Mine look similar (stripping only), in certain lighting or certain angles, especially when lite up with a light source such as a camera flash. Mine are also relatively just out of Juvie colouring so I guess this also may add to the prominent dark couloured stripes.

If the fish are viewed straight on or indeed without any other external light sources they look pretty bloody good, minus the harsh dark stripes.

Im not promising but I will see if I can demonstrate the above this week and post up the results if it works and I have the time.

The striping wasn't what made me think it wasn't a electric blue.. everything about it together tells me it isnt. smile.gif

Yes you are correct about the stripes I have had a few from different sources with the faint stripes present, more so when breeding or fighting.. others with none.

The fish also can be seen in the 2nd photo aswell.. next to a blue..

Not going to go on to much about it.. this thread is for something different.. but its just my opinion could be wrong but I don't think so smile.gif

Hi everyone
it is great to see some awesome pics of some very stunning fish. I have just started up my 5 ft tank and have what i think is a nice selection all small and some just colouring up. It is very exciting to see them all mingle and adjust to their new environment.
i have and im sorry not sure of all their technical names so will give it to you as i know them:
3 Dimidiochromis compressiceps
2 electric blues
2 electric yellows
2 texas
2 red jewel
1 fire berg peacock ? (is what i was told it is but can't find anything about them on the net, all i know is it is male and they dont come in females)
2 venustus
1 red empress
3 clown loaches
2 bristlenose
2 khuli loaches

so im not entirely sure if they will all get along as they get older but so far they are behaving. if anyone has any further comments or suggestions os experiences please let me know.
this is a totally different range to what i used to keep smile.gif

cheers

Nice selection of fish Mandi. Maybe your Peacock is one of the Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi. Here is a link to many different varieties of this species, check the above mentioned types for a match. Hope it helps.

hi all
this maybe getting a little off the topic but is there any plants that I can use in my tank with the above fish i have. I have heard there are two varieties of plants but cant remember what they are and if they are any good.
any info is appreciated

cheers mandi

Hi Mandi,

Vallis and Anubias and Java fern work well.....sometimes. Attach the Anubias and Java fern to rock using varied methods(cotton, fishing line) there roots will grow on and stick to the rock. The vallis is best if roots are fed through something like guttergard or eggcrate and then push the eggcrate etc under sand/gravel. Or leave plants in pots. I'm using the tiny(4cm) terracotta pots to some success at present, but will still need to attach plant anchors i feel as fish still uproot them occasionally.
(I take it you remembered.)
cheers
