Hi all,
Had been a while since my last post. Ive recently decided to convert my planted 4×2×2 into a tropheus set up. I kept tropheus about ten years ago, back when even dubosi were worth ~$50 each and other varieties even more! Back then varities like ilangi and red rainbow were hard to find and super $$$$

My question is, what tropheus are available now and what should I expect to pay? Are ilangi and red rainbows more common and has their price come down?

Cheers

Dr C

Heaps more variety established in Australia now than there was ten years ago but number of T keepers in perth is a lot lower. Sponsors should be able to source whichever type your after at a good price if you ask - the breeders are mostly eastern states and sell juvies at prices that are quite attractive.

Mpwimbwe red cheek, brichardi Kipilli and murago are my faves

Thanks Poncho. Im excited. Are the more exotic varities I.e. ilangi and the ones you describe more aggressive than say, bemba or dubosi? I have a 450 litre tank.

Not in my experience. The brichardi types have a reputation for being more aggressive but set the colony up in the right environment and it's not that big an issue

Dr why not keep the tank planted and just add the Tropheus, i think Waruna did a topic on his tank. It looked good seeing the Tropheus in a planted tank.

Sandgroper, thanks but no thanks.  I did see that thread, but I prefer to keep tropheus in their natural biotopes :)

I could suggest some of the sponsors as an avenue for tropheus, and the likes of Aquotix have/had nice examples, sadly one in particular sells the worst examples of bloated cichlids I have ever seen and I make a point of avoiding them like the plague when it comes to livestock.

They know who they're because I have expressed my disgust they're even in a tank with a price tag on it on 2 separate occasions.
