Due to Graeme (and Alfred's) enquiries and requests,

I'm considering another bulk order of dry ferts.
Anyone interested?

As usual, would be Kn03, Kh2p04 and Mg2S04.
If there's enough numbers, we'll go ahead with it.

Cheers,
Jerome

Thanks for the suggestion mate,
But its really hard to predict how much everyone uses, some dose them equally for PMDDs and otherwise.

So it seems like only Kn03 is in demand?
I'll arrange for some to come in then.
Alfred, i'll source for your other bits too, or at least point ya in teh right direction for the rest. Kn03 seems to be the tricky one.

Matt: Go easy on them "Extra Activities".. haha don't go blowing your house up.

Hey guys, how's 1kg for Kn03 each sound?

Cheers,
Jerome

How much should I dose?

Parameters

5x2x2
6-8x54watts
CO2
Planning to have the tank will be heavily planted with mostly crypts.

What about FE? I have some chelated fe, just have to dig it out!

5x2x2 = 150gal (149.82 to be exact)
8 x 54w = 432w
6 x 54 = 324w

Taking 8x54, you would have 2.88wpg (rounded up to 3wpg)

That considered moderate-high light.
According to EI, your dosing should be:

Day 1 (After Water Change) -
1 tsp of KN03
3 - 3.5 tsp of Mg2S04
420mg of KH2P04
15ml Traces.

Day 2 -
15ml Traces

Day 3 -
3/4 tsp of KN03
420mg KH2P04

Day 4 -
Nil, Nothing, Nada.

Day 5 -
1 tsp of KN03
420mg of KH2P04
15ml Traces.

Day 6 -
15ml Traces

Day 7 -
3/4 tsp of KN03
420mg KH2P04

Do a 30 - 50% WC after day 7 (i.e. on day 1) and repeat.
Most importantly, ensure your C02 levels are at 30 - 45ppm constantly.

For the first week, you may wanna half everything, including your lights and observe your lifestock's reaction. Slowly increase to full dosage over the course of week 2.

This is something i do just be safe. The plants won't get affected, but the lifestock may if you overdose too much. But the way i see it, you've got a huge volume of water to play with, plenty of room for mistakes.

I've taken the liberty to stagger your dosing, its possible to dose day 1 - 3 as 1 serving on day 1 and then day 5 - 7 as 1 serving on day 5, but i fear that 70ppm of nitrates may be a tad bit too strong for your fish to handle in 1 sitting.

Fe is to be included under traces. Dose as per instructions on bottle. Each brand varies.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Jerome, this helps heaps, but looks like I am heading for a daily routine which is something I am hoping to avoid as I travel quite often.

Will the dosing routine become less frequent?

I doubt I will have any fish in the tank till 2-3 weeks after start up. I will not need any fish in there to start cycling the tank as the water coloum will have heaps of nutrients from the substrate that I am going to use.

My usual routine is to start with 3hrs of light for 3-4 days then increase it by an hour daily till I hit 8-10 hours, depending on intensity.

Alfred,

I never had experiences with staggering lights or having light hiatus time, so i'm afraid my dosing is for full force light systems.
You may have to experiment around with yours.

One way to keep it simple is as mentioned above, dose 1 - 3 and 5 - 7 as single servings. You can try, but i fear for your lifestock. Dosing 1 - 7 as 1 is even more dangerous although not impossible.

Or Reduce your light...

Mike:

That works out to 2.2wpg.
Dosing should be similar.

Range works in
1 - 2 wpg (Low Light)
2 - 3.5wpg (Medium-high)
3.5 and up (High)

Dosing frequency increases with lighting intesity.

Hi Jerome

Any indication what this will cost? Depending on the cost, I might cut down the order of KH2PO4 to 500 grams if possible, as this will hardly be used.

Cheers
Alfred

Hi Alfred,

$15 - 1kg Self Collect
$10 - 500g Self Collect.
Top up $10 for delivery.
Orders over $50 no delivery charge.

Same as always.

Yes you should cut down on Kh2P04. You might end up with a lifetime supply otherwise

Cheers,
Jerome
