Wanting to know if we can get discrossus sp. in Australia?

We get Dicrossus filamentosus from time to time

They'll probably be quite expensive though I'm guessing.

Secondnatureaquariums has a pair for sale for $95.00, shipping to WA is $45.00. I purchased some Apisto's from them, they are not the cheapest but if you want to get them I would be happy to go in with you or anyone else on postage and get a group order.

Sweet! How would you say there personalities are like? Are they similar to other cichlids, particularly Apistos or rams? I am very close to buying a pair. I have one breeding tank left.

Do they get along ok with the discus?

They are somewhat like apistos in behaviour but a lot more shy. They hover around the bottom of the tank and seem to be alert of their surroundings at all times. Pretty busy fish and would be an efficient hunter of any small creatures (ie fry) in the tank. Took ages just trying to get a shot as they would dart into leaves everytime I come near whereas the apistos would swim forward to take a look. They never swim to the surface unlike apistos even when they are hungry. The two males do display off each other which brings their colors out.

 

Seems to largely ignore the other fish in the tank which includes discus and apistos. None of the other fish have chewed on their tails. From the 'net, breeding seems like a challenge on all accounts but would probably have a go once I can source a female or two.

 

Got my macro camera out today so managed to grab a better shot of the elusive buggers.....also took the opportunity to take some photos from my breeding tanks...so enjoy!
