#366537 Seachem Safe Doesing Chart

Posted by Departure on 07 September 2018 - 04:58 PM

So I have been looking all over the internet for dosing amounts for seachem safe, I found a lot of mixed dosing rates, So I went to the seachem web site to double check the label on my seachem safe is the same, apparently they have changed the dosing rates which are correct on my bottle of seachem safe, but I wanted to know how much I needed to treat smaller tanks, So I made up a chart for easier reference below, Just posting it here so I don't loose it. btw the grams is pretty much the same as milliliters if you do not have scales, I personally ordered a set of "Mad Millie Culture And Enzyme measuring spoons" these have the tad, dash, pinch smidgen and drop measurements. For smaller tanks not listed the normal dosing rate is basically 0.1g / 100mg per 100 liters, so if you had a 20 litre tank it would be 20mg / 0.02g for a normal dosing rate

[Update "Drop" = 1/40 tsp or 1/64 tsp, Depends on what brand of measuring spoons used]

#363621 Fish Suggestions "summer Tubbing"

Posted by Departure on 05 October 2017 - 02:24 PM

So I started setting up the "Summer Tubbing" I cut olives barrels in half and used 3 out of 4, bought some bricks at bunning's for a couple dollars each and pine timber(1800mm long) for $4 each, Had some varnish/stain and gave them a coat so it doesn't look so ghetto with pine. tested it by filling them up with water and they didn't move an inch.

#363525 Fish Suggestions "summer Tubbing"

Posted by Departure on 01 October 2017 - 08:38 PM

Just wondering what fish would be suitable to keep under a patio outside in Perth weather, It's coming up to summer and would really like to throw some fish into those brown plastic olive barrels, I have 2 barrels that I have cut in half's to make 4 "tubs". If anyone does the "Summer Tubbing" thing maybe you could throw up a few suggestions plus tips and tricks to keeping a summer tub going. I have 4 extra large seeded sponge filters and a bigboy airpump and ready to go. I think it might be just a tad cold just yet to set up, as night temps are still around 10 degree Celsius, but was thinking once it reaches around 15 Celsius during the nights that would be a good time to start. All ideas and suggestions welcome regarding the fish and tub setup

#312555 Sold: African Cichlid Bundle Pack

Posted by Departure on 04 April 2014 - 09:30 AM

So I have a "bundle pack" up for sale, which consists of all my african cichlids, I need the African tank cleared out as I would like to venture into more south American cichlids. there is 30+ fish including a colony of dragonbloods, 7 bar fontosa, breeding pair of electric yellow(currently with mouth full), xmas fluval, Afra cobue, colbolt blue, red jewel, electric blues and many other types of african cichlids, Most are of adult size with some 6+cm group of electric yellows and a stunning juvenile 10cm electric blue male. Im thinking $200 is a bargain price for this amount of fish, and types of fish which would cost a fortune in the pet shops.

Instead of many photos of each one, below is a quick video of what you will get

SOLD.

#312518 Discus Tank 6Ft

Posted by Departure on 03 April 2014 - 09:07 PM

So I have seen a few topics on discus going around on this forum, Thought I might throw a couple of pictures of ones I am currently keeping, Anyway here is my lot.  I know it would look a lot better with real plants, But I have'nt had any luck growing plants in aquariums, so for now I have to stick with plastic, The drift wood is real tho'

I don't have any real camera to take nice photo's so my mobile phone was used for photo's and video, don't flame me....

#312284 Drilled Tanks - Will This Work

Posted by Departure on 01 April 2014 - 11:07 AM

So im thinking of a future fish room with multiple tanks all using a central sump. The one thing I wanted to do was to make water changes easy. Other thing was I wanted maximum water level. the problem with drilled tanks that have an overflow type system is they are drilled just below the top of the tank leaving the water level a fair few inches below the maximum water level. Now if I wanted to incorporate an easy water change I would need to drill a second hole to the level I wanted to be discharged from the tank. So im thinking that if I drill low enough I could do both with just 1 hole drilled and the hole could be low enough to also suck the dirty stuff out the bottom of the tank where it normally lays.

So the below is a rough drawing of my idea to combat both, now because the sump pipe has an air intake it shouldn't create a siphon(hopefully) and it will be just like an overflow but I could have the water level higher than I could with a top drilled overflow. Have a look and tell me what you guys think with your ideas and suggestions..

Will this work??? Im thinking kinda like an outside weir/overflow ......

#311775 Don't You Hate It When People Think Fish Keeping Is Weird????

Posted by Departure on 26 March 2014 - 02:00 PM

The real question you need to ask your self is... how important is it to you what this kid thinks of your hobby? do you really need to care what he think of your hobby?  is there any reason why you should care? I am pretty sure you already know the answer.....

#303238 Help!!!!!! Tech / It Wizards Needed

Posted by Departure on 28 December 2013 - 12:45 AM

do your self a favour and ditch windows, and opt for a linux distribution.

But honestly I think its time to start removing unneeded files on your system or atleast move them to another drive if they are not files from an install. I couldn't imagine 80+GB of software installed assuming windows take up around 20GB(thats on the high side). so only conclusion is photo, music, video ect... are still sitting on your C drive some where, or maybe you have a few games games installed? if so then uninstall and reinstall them with the install path pointing to another drive and not your C drive.

#291187 The Price Of A Fish

Posted by Departure on 05 August 2013 - 08:35 PM

They are worth the price that you are willing to pay and the seller is willing to let them go for.

Hmm I think that was a cop out answer and very cliche.....
