Am getting more into cory`s alot lately and was wondering what species people on here are keeping and also what cory`s they are successfully breeding.

I currently have 2 species of cory`s

6 Corydoras sterbai ( which are breeding every week)
5 Corydoras aeneus var. Gold shoulder ( still young )
I have more on the way biggrin.gif

Poorly worded post before by me - i wasn't referring only to caudimaculatus but cory's in general. You said your sterbai are breeding every week so you're doing something right.

For what you have acheived so far has it been as easy as putting mature fish in a tank together and letting them go for it or have you been quite vigilant with water parameters, conditioning the fish with certain foods?

I grew out a group of 6 stebais from 3cm juvies which took me 18 months.
I lucked out with the ratio with two big girls and 3 boys and 1 on which im still not sure of its sex yet.

Im dilligent in 2 things, water quality and quality food and as far as water parameters go my ph is 7.0 they do the rest, everytime i do a waterchange they spawn within the next hour or so and mostly they get nls grow and frozenbloodworms.

Thats what ive found anyway and hope this helps biggrin.gif

Cory's are on group were more males than females is an advantage. I work with a ratio of about 1 female to 2 males.

There`s some great collections out there guys biggrin.gif

Would love to see some pics of all the varities that are being kept biggrin.gif

Thanks Az biggrin.gif Will be seeing you this coming weekend biggrin.gif

So the people breeding , Do you have the cory` s in tanks of there own and let them spawn and leave the eggs to hatch where they are or are they in community tanks and you remove the eggs and hatch them seperately ?

What methods are common practice with you biggrin.gif

Im setting up a 3 teir 2 x 18 x18 setup atm with cory`s in mind and will be taking my sterbai out and letting them go for it in one of these tanks and see how i go as they have been breeding in my 7ft community cat tank and alot of the eggs were left alone to hatch by themselves but have now put my 4 clown loaches back in to try and curb a snail problem and these guys favourite treat is cory eggs biggrin.gif

Cheers biggrin.gif

umm.. With Cories, the eggs are removed once the spawning is complete as the Parents will eat the eggs without a second thought. The Fry are then reared on Microworms until they reach a large enough size to eat blackworms and the like. Right now I have my cories in a "Cory Community" Tank, but if I would really want to breed them I would set up 24"x14"x10" tanks and keep a species group of corydoras in each.

Hey Guys biggrin.gif

Do Cory`s crossbreed ?

As i think my sterbai`s and goldshoulders have crossed but am not sure yet as i have some oddly marked sterbai juvies coming up and did see the young gold shoulders swimming up n down the glass when the sterbai`s spawned about 5 weeks ago ,am seperating all of my cory`s soon when the new setup is running and will take some pics when they get a little bit bigger.

corys can crossbreed.

As can be seen with the peppered Corydoras and C. Longipinnis.

Crossbreeding is frowned upon and some even cull the fry, yet if they are just kept in display and not used for breeding I don't see the problem.
