This weekend i shall be purchasing my second python, i currently have one rather ill tempered stimsons python who measures about 1.1m and goes by the name of eric, haha.

and on saturday i shall be getting a south west carpet python roughly 90cm long, captive breed.... oh i can't wait.


does anyone else have any pythons or reptiles?

I have a few stimis and a carpety. Cut down on the reptiles to run more fish tanks.

Always really exciting getting a new snake....

my 13 y/o son is wanting to get into reptiles can anyone tell me what the license process is like and what type of snake he should start with and what sort of prices he or should i say i will be up for would like to get him a small young one that he can raise to adult.

I used to keep a Stimpsoms, it was a good low maitenance pet I loved watching it eat.

Would like a snake but the ministry of finance and war, ie partner, doesnt agree, so turtles it is!

I was looking at the snakes you could keep with a class 5 licence, WHY would ANYONE want to keep a death adder, dugite, king brown or tiger snake.
Completely beyond me, but each to their own I suppose...

ha! my brother has his cat 5. but thats mainly becouse he is snake catcher and every so often they have to board here, untill they can be re-released.
ill post some pics of the setup shortly, it was custome built by him and my father (cabinet maker) and has all the heat coils built into the wood on the bass etc.

myself i hate snakes but am planning on getting some frogs, also out of intrest sakes where do most people by there reptiles?

Nothing wrong with keeping elapids. If you know how. Great pets some of them.

pet magic has afew reptiles these days, but i got my carpet python from reptile trader in rockingham, which has a greater variety than pet magic i found. the bloke there (can't remember his name) was very helpful and easy going. i'd reccommend anyone looking into reptiles to go and see the store or give them a call.

in reply to 69olds comment, it is a very simple process to get the license, there's a link to the licensing papers on the reptiletrader website, all you have to do is fill out a form, send the form and pay for which ever category license you get. i'm assuming you'd be after a cat. 3 license which'll cost $100 for 3 years. (that'll cover both stimsons and carpet pythons)

stimsons pythons start at 395 for a hatchling and carpets from 995, however the carpets will reach 3 meters for a female and 2 for a male, where as the stimmies reach 1meter and abit.

and for a setup your looking at $500 min i'd say. some vivariums come with lighting and thermostats and others don't, so it really just depends on what you go for.

I used to keep 2 stimsons, a darling carpet and a south west carpet python!!

stimi's were quite small one was 72cm and the othe about 90cm...

darling carpet was magnificant with his goldy green tapestry markings

south west i didnt keep for lon as he was 1.6m long and couldnt house him. but he was kindly donated to a friend of mine who holds a cat. 5 and keeps a death adder in an enclosure in his room... not a big fan
i just like the ones that cant kill you right!! but to each his own

all snakes were wild caught (lol) with suficent licences, mind you, and unfortunately i dont keep them any more!!

i used to have a breeding pair of beardies, unfortunately no eggs, when we had already sold them to our LRS (local reptile store) turned out she was gravid, in one way i was annoyed (lots of money and the experience) and in another i was relieved (lots of work needed ), i do miss them but i have to get rid of them because for me, they were high maintenance have fun with your carpet python, i would have one if i had the money and mum wasn't freaked out my snakes lol
