Painting On A 3D Background

Has anyone painted on a 3d back ground? my background has some paint fading

Yes.

 

If you have a foam based background you have to use water based acrylic paints and seal it. This is because any other paint or spray will melt the foam.

 

If it is plastic based or fibreglass you need to use acrylic and seal it or use something like Krylon Fusion spray. Note that if you spray plastics you need to sand them a little all over so the plastic has a surface texture the paint can stick too.

 

To get good rock effect simply use black undercoat and then mix some black with white acrylic into various grey through white shades and dry brush them on. Lightly hitting the ridges and bumps will pick up the lighter colours and look like a natural rock effect. Use browns for earthy feel. 

 

Undercoat every square inch. Ensure you leave it to dry for a week and seal if possible. Wash everything thoroughly before putting into a tank.

interested in touching up my 4x2x2 background? its a plastic based one, how much would you do it for?
