haven't posted for a while so here are some new pics - added a heap of anubius to the driftwood and planted a massive java fern to a long piece of wood that i had previously. sold the red lotus as the fish kept digging it up

im pretty much finished with this tank. probably add another ray and might try add a few more top level fish to go with the red tail chalceus (any suggestions people? needs to be from a similar area).

I'd go with some Red Hooked Silver Dollars, look really good when they get some size on them.

Hey Alex :) are you talking about the red hook metynis? If so they, and the spotted metynis, are 2 of my new favourite fish! They look stunning schooling together :)

You could put a few silver mono argents as well, I like the different shape to them :)

One in the same.

They get the nice reg markings on them as they mature, and have an interesting face.

Nice! I have 2 of each metynis variety in a tank at the moment, only as big as a 50 cent peice at the moment but really nice fish to watch schooling together :)

Myleus rubripinnis (Luna).
Luna is the red spotted variety.
They are really bad for going nuts freaking out,,,,, over reaction from being startled,,, and at night time to,,, or just walking up to them to quick.
I bought 6 from Malaga aquariums (Kevs old shop), not long after he opened,, and still have them.
Definetely one of my treasures.

A really underrated fish,,, especially fully grown with silver red spots beaming of the silver flanks.
A super excellent fish as tank mates with big fish or little fish as they stick to there own at mid level in tight formation.

Another nice one is the M.R. (black jack),,,, has a thick black vertical stripe in centre of flank with large red flush behind the gills.
These have been around south oz.

M.R are excellent stingray companions.

The black barred ones your referring to Mark are stunning, unfortunately I have never seen them here, typical.

The barred ones are probably the fasciatus. These were on the latest german list, but horribly expensive- pity as I have never seen them here. Wish I saw yours Alex

Black jacks in south oz being sold for $60 each at 8-9cm in shop when I saw about 8 months ago.
They were shipping to, and had heaps.

I think they would only sell for $30 each in Perth realistically,,, and I guess this lower price is the very reason Perth does not get to have them.

When Perth breeders or shops pay big bucks for fish that are actually worth the big bucks, then the breeders/shops don't want to sell for cheap, but need to sell for what theyre worth,,,, so All in all Perth can't be bothered with them.

I had redhooks (luna) and uarus on my tank a few years ago. They are interesting fish to go with rays and they school. Recently there were some blackberry silver dollars that came in from bayfish but i missed out. I was only able to track one but found out they were noxious here so had to let it go. The blackberry looks nice and basically a redhook with black patch on the body - not the vertical bands. There were also tiger silver dollars that came, just not sure where they are now.

so been a while since i updated this one - plants didnt go too well and moved some things on and ended up with bass - as originally planned.

found the water flow from the sump removed all of the sand from 1 end so i shifted the rocks to that end and added some fake plants for a bit more colour

Fair set of claspers on that stingray. How many rays do you have?

Is the lighting in that tank that blue or is it just the pictures/background making it look this way?
