Auction Roundup 05/02/2017

Firstly my apologies for being so tardy in getting this month’s roundup to you – unfortunately I have been time poor of late and was unable to attend the auction myself, so a special thanks to the Committee for making the results available to me, and even though I had them the day after the auction, I have only just had a chance to collate them.

Also the formatting is out of whack so I have also attached the file for download.

The PCS Auction was held on 5th Fen 2018 I can’t give you any idea of the number of attendees as I was not there. Judging from the results the prices for the more prestige stock seemed to be quite good, however generally prices were at the low end. PLEASE NOTE: numbers and percentages in brackets refer to the previous auction and are provided for comparison.

And here are the stats.  The full list of 150 lots went under the hammer.  (There did not appear to be any scratched/lots withdrawn) Here is a break up of Lots by number and percentage of total. There were 5 Lots passed in, being two Fish, two Catfish and one Plant lot, where no bids being received or did not meet Reserve.

Auction Roundup 03/10/2017

I know you have all been waiting with baited breath for the latest Auction Roundup so here it is.

The PCS Auction 3rd Oct 2017 was attended by approx. 58 members and guests. There seemed to be a couple of new faces and a couple of new members also signed up which is very pleasing all round. Lots offered were again excellent though again there were a number of duplicated lots. I felt prices were still down a bit and some good bargins were had.. PLEASE NOTE: numbers and percentages in brackets refer to the previous auction and are provided for comparison.

Here are the stats for those who like them. A total of 142 lots went under the hammer from an original list of 149.  (There were a number (7) of scratched/lots withdrawn) Here is a break up of Lots by number and percentage of total. Again there were some Lots passed in, being three Fish lots where no bids being received or did not meet Reserve.

As a footnote, Congratulations to CloeyyMegan on winning first prize in the raffle – a great background piece donated by Aquotix – I scored the 2nd prize of a bucket of Sara Goldie pond flakes but imagine my surprise and disappointment when I got home and realised that it expired last month!

Apologies for the crocked formatting.

Auction Roundup

03 August 2017 - 09:29 AM

Auction Roundup

Firstly my congratulations to the committee for their foresight in trying to encourage more Cichlid Lots by reducing the commission on Cichlid sales to 5% and reinforce the Club ethos of Care, Husbandry and preservation of Cichlids

The PCS Auction and AGM on 1st Aug 17 was attended by approx. 55 members and guests. The atmosphere was still a little flat similar to the previous auction (this is of course my subjective view) and as Mike has previously pointed out there were some newer and younger people in attendance. Lots offered were again excellent though there was a number of duplicated lots which I think resulted in lower prices all round. PLEASE NOTE: numbers and percentages in brackets refer to the previous auction and are provided for comparison. Overall prices were well down on previous Auctions which could be the result of many factors AGM, Winter, large number of duplicate lots etc etc

Here are the stats for those who like them. A total of 143 lots went under the hammer from an original list of 147.  (There were four scratched/lots withdrawn) Here is a break up of Lots by number and percentage of total. For the second consecutive auction Lots were passed in, being four Plant Lots that were passed in with no bids being received or did not meet Reserve.

TYPE                                     Number of Lots          % of Total

* Sub-total of all fish not part of overall total.
** All items not categorised as above.

Chichlids, Catfish and Cichlid Books/Mags, made up 55% (43% ) of Lots on offer and Non-Cichlids, Plants, Shrimp and Snails made up 40% (47% n) of Lots on offer. The remaining 5% was made up of Other items (Food, pumps, accessories etc.). Obviously the Committees strategy is working as for the first time since I have been doing the Auction Roundup Chichlids, Catfish and Cichlid Books/Mags has made up more than 50% of the Lots and exceeded Non-Cichlids, Plants, Shrimp and Snail Lots

Being a Cichlid Society I have included tables which are cichlid specific.

This Auction saw a smaller number of donations for the Stuart Grant Fund with only 9 Lots,
Chen and Bigjohnnofish again topped the list and welcome to Spilo with 17 lots being the next highest.  Looks like hes had a Tang clearout with 8 Tang Lots being 40% of the total Tang Lots on offer. And if I hadnt been staying up in Perth I would have been taking the Blue Occies back to Bunbury with me.

Wood For Plecos

14 May 2017 - 10:53 PM

As we all know wood of some type appears to be a pre-requisite of keeping/breeding plecs, especially those of the Panaque and panaqolus species. Here in Oz the majority of our woods are classed as hardwoods, and I was wondering if they were easily digestible by the above, or was there any preference for a softer type of wood? (oh and I am not talking about pine)
I had the thought of using weighed down Balsa wood - has any one had any experience with this and what were the pros and cons?
