I heard there are a lot of pearl cichlids in swan river. I am keen to catch a few and put them in me pond.
Just want to know how to catch them
Where to catch them?
How big hooks
Lures or bait (and what type)
Any other tips?
Cheers.

Download an app called pestwatch... Has a map of reported sightings of pest species... Pretty interesting app.

Apparently there are quite a few brasiliensis around Ellenbrook, mainly in the lakes I think but possibly in the river - Would make sense as I'm pretty sure they were released slightly upriver from there. Bright torch at night with a scoop net is the best way I've heard of, could probably set some traps with bait if you really wanted but you need to be careful with the legality of these things  ;)

I think you mean Bennett Brook and I think they were initially released around Beechboro in the Altone park lakes.
I've spent days and days buggering around in Bennett Brook within a couple of km's downstream from Altone park, never seen a brasiliensis though.
I've also spent a lot of time hip to knee deep in Ellen Brook and only seen one pest species (gambusia) and at super low numbers too. Lots of Bostockia porosa there so I presume they keep the gambusia at bay.
Try the method Leichardti mentioned in the swan under the Whiteman bridge near the Bandyup women's prison... I haven't seen them myself but I hear there are big ones there...

A few years ago (2010) I caught a 8" female specimen at Altone Park lakes, and a 10" male under the car bridge in a feeder creek of Bennet Brook. I also netted close to 50 1-2" juvies at Altone Park.
Az took possession of the female at MPAC when he was the fishroom head honcho there, along with a dozen or so juvies. I put the male in a large display tank at my work. Good memories. Wild caught brasilliensis in Aus...no certificates lol 😂😂
