Hi all,

A while ago I used to have some wild Benthochromis in with my Moba until the male got too aggressive for the tank and started smashing the Moba.

While I had them, I managed to breed them and I took a video showing the fry development from egg.  It's a long video but very detailed.

Of course, I also got some shots of these beautiful fish :)

Absolute stunners Ronny and top job getting them to breed.  I was always under the impression we were forced to get wild caught stock.

I believe that actually use to be the case,,, still exceptionally hard to breed, but a touch easier.

Awesome pictures and videos! I follow your Facebook page and look forward to each update! Keep 'em coming! ;) :D

Curious how many fry you were able to produce? How long did you have them? And what was their average brood size?

Thanks guys :)

Thanks mate!  I believe it still kind of is that way.

I've been told the "Pond Raised" ones are fry that were collected from wild females that were caught holding.  They're not really a fish you could breed in commercial numbers.

Thanks! The FB page is a bit quiet lately cos I've downsized my collection due to limited time.

I raised 14 of them with 4 (out of 9 eggs) being the most from one mouthful.

They started spawning 2 weeks after I got them and I kept them for a year.

For a fish with a big mouth they have very few fry.  I believe it's due to the time they hold the fry.  The females hold for up to 3 months and the fry are quiet large by that time.

Not for the young ones ;)

A bit of X Rated fish footage lol.

Gotta luv seeing fully formed fish as fry. Eggs sacks are quite orange / red.

The orange is baby brine shrimp ;)

The fry yolk is more of a white colour.

These are 8 day old fry, the day before their first feed.
