Hi All

I have a problem with my pond.

When I put my hands in the water if I have a scratch or small cut on my hand it stings as soon as I have contact with the water, stops stinging as soon as my hand is dry

I am not being bitten by anything and water looks good and clear.

it doesn't seem to be bothering 2 yabbies, rosy barbs (fish orphans that have been breeding in there for 2 years) or a couple of frogs and water lilies are growing well.

this doesn't happen with contact with any other water but has been constant with my pond water for about 4 weeks.

anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance

does it stop as soon as you take your hand out? because it would be a earth leak. The pump in there might not be so water tight any more and releasing a small amount of electricity into the water and you touching the ground with your hand in the water completes the curcit and you get the zap (or tingle)

Hi thanks for the quick replies

Just checked out potential electrical problem by removing pump and testing on hand again.

Thanks guys you are right. No pump no stinging.

I didn't even think of electricity as it only appeared to happen on scratch/small cut on my hand. maybe it is such a small amount as only to be detectable on broken skin at this stage.

But I will definitely be replacing the pump now before I or anyone else gets zapped.

Thanks HEAPS for your replies you potentially saved me from a serious accident.

I had this problem when I was at a caravan park doing the dishes in the communal kitchen :) it would sting a lot, but I found that if I wore a shoe with socks it wouldn't affect my hand :)

I stuck my hand in a tank and got a big boot - ended up in hospital with restricted arteries - only a small filter on a 2' but packed a big punch.......mal
