Scientific Name: Champsochromis spilorhynchus
Pronunciation: Champ-so-chro-mis spilo-ring-kus
Trade Name(s): Splio's
Distribution: Lake-wide distribution
Habitat: Sandy Habitat
Diet: Piscivore (Mainly fish)
Sexing: Males are stunning when in full color. Bluish head, green & blue body.
Females are silver. They also display the juvenile barring from head to caudal.
Both M & F display the "Tear drop" under the eye.
Maximum Size: 40cm
Temperature: 24 to 26c
pH: 7.5 to 9.0
Water Hardness: 300-400ppm
Availability: Uncommon Available in Oz. They a formidable predator with long flowing fins. They are becoming rarer in Lake Malawi due to over fishing. If you have the space, Get some and breed them, they are sensational.
