how fat is this redtail catfish.....

mind you this is the sort of image fisheries and daff see and then want to put the fish on the noxious list...

once you have had a redtail you understand it isnt a killing machine like a mangrove jack but more like a pet dog but in water.... no offence to jack owners but they would be more devastating let loose in a waterway (that it isnt already in)... redtail definitely not a verocious predator but merely a hungry fish....

Was quite happy with the stock I had in my tank, until I saw L046's, wow very nice. Are they relatively hard to come by?

Hmmm anyone got a magnifying glass to read this, not sure what I have done here, changed font size to.

Have wanted one for years. I was lucky enough to see one here in WA a few years back, it was AMAZING!
I believe these are allowed here unlike the Tigers.

Very expensive fish but very very sensational looking species, I would have to say it would be on my top ten list.

i think the 046's were indeed put on the endangered list as proposed damming in the amazon would wipe out their natural habitat and whether or not they adapt or die no-one really knows...

they are expensive purely because they breed small numbers and dont breed very often... males take 4-5 years to mature - females 2-3 years.... and fry take between 6-12 mths to get to selling size... and the fact they look sensational makes them sought after aquarium fish... also they need a well maintained aquarium with high DO levels... males rarely get over 10cm and females 8cm... they dont compete well with other fish for food so pretty much need their own tank.... some specific dither fish are ok...as long as they arent aggressive feeders and want to share 046's cave/hangouts....price starts from about $700 for a single fry around 3cm and goes up with size...

so there you go... and i can assure you they dont crap pink diamonds - just normal turds like other fish :)

tigirinis :)

Basically anything I haven't kept.

Top 3 would be; Arapaima gigas, Goonch and Goliath Tiger fish.

Any cool variants would also be cool. I love anything in platinum or gold including barramundi.

I wonder if where the last lot of platinum/gold barras went?

I thought a few came in from seaview about 18-24 months ago?

Who knows. I like the idea of them. Keysborough aquariums often have them 3-6k depending on quality.
