Came back from a new years party and found a leptosoma kitumba with a fresh mouthful. Not a bad way to see in the new year.

The princess cichlids I scored at the last auction appeared with about 50 free swimmers today and a Williamsi blue lips spat 27 fry. Still waiting patiently for my rostratum peacocks to do the deed though - they're getting closer

She ate the fry :(

She had around 30 of them and was going through the spitting out and letting feed and sucking back up, but they are all gone :(

Excuse the murky water, they've reorgised the whole tank today haha. Also have the little one in the last pic for sale as she is getting picked on.

Bummer dude. I always ended up stripping mine if I wanted the fry. Just to be sure. Not every mouthful. Just every so often. You'll get the next lot.

Tom

You should try to keep them as a trio, if you lose the larger female it will be very hard to get another one and even harder to introduce her to the male. The smaller female will be able to fend for herself if you give her a small piece of plastic pipe to swim through, just small enough so that the male wont fit.The pipe in your pics is too big it needs to be straight and about three times the length of the female with access from both ends, place it as far from the spawning site as you can.

My 4 Chalinochromis ndobhoi have formed 2 pairs with lots of fighting over spawning caves so I decided to move one pair, I found 3 x 1.5cm fry in one of the caves. I'll keep the adults as pairs in tanks on their own until I sell them to see if I can get a large spawn.

I bred them before I took a break from the scene. I kept a few species for enjoyment but didn't condition for breeding anymore. I have just been firing up all my species again since about a month after my son was born. It's been 3 months and only my 6 bars are yet to breed for me now.
But ah yes, in answer to your question I have bred them before, however this will be their first spawns since firing back up. They produced some good fry last time so be good to see how they go this time. They are supposedly f1's as the guy I bought the fry off claimed his were wild caught. But you never know these days. :)
