As some of you know, I'm currently in the process of moving house/selling off all my FW fish. Wont be out of the hobby long, but have decided to join the dark side, marines. Just have the one large reef tank as a display and my 8x3 plumbed into my sump to increase system volume, and to keep a few fish that are not 'reef safe'.

Was just digging through some old pictures of my old 8' reef tank. tank was low tech without a sump, but still ended up looking relatively good. Was actually a good learning experience as I now realise a lot of things that I didn't like that need improving with my next tank.

Some past pics -

corallimorph (was a tiny little hitchhiker on some LR when first introduced)

elegance coral that hosted my clowns - these corals get a bad name, apparently quite hard to keep (especially overseas), I never had any issues, in fact the thing grew huge.

Jansens wrasse - terrible photo, one of the most amazing fish ever, just a big cruising thug, not really the sort of fish you should put in a reef, not unless you don't like your inverts.

Undulated moray ~4' long when I sold him/her

Group shot, love my tangs!

Can't wait to rinse myself of every last dollar and get back into it!

Shame to see the TBs and rays go man.

But none the less marines are awesome!! Following your thread on the build if you start one.

Is the 8x3 going to have predators? I seen a mint tasselled wobbegong at vebas few weeks back, was unreal!

Beautiful tank mate.

With your next marine tank will you be making it a predator tank, mixed reef, LPS, FOWLR or SPS.

Cheers

The lights will be the last thing I buy. At the moment 4x 400w metal halides with two sunpower T5 4x 80W fixtures.

Have 4 holes drilled in the tank for sump returns along the back of the tank + Tunze multicontroller 7095 with 4x 6255's

I don't want to give too much away, but I've invested a massive amount of time and money into this beats. Going to be my fish keeping 'masterpiece'.

Dude Go LEDS. Trust me there was a time they were useless now they are growing the hardest SPS types under them.

I have been looking at LEDs, but am not sold on them just yet.

I really like the look of these. Considering handing two of these units coupled with some T5 supplements -

Controllable power settings and a broad spectrum range coupled with a lot of power. A friend of mine uses the smaller grow units for hydroponics and it is a great unit for growing plants. Obviously the grow lights are different to the reef lights but I was very impressed with the build quality and just the sheer amount of light produced by the much smaller unit.
