#366577 Air Blower For Sale

Posted by Terry on 14 September 2018 - 03:07 PM

I had this air blower rewinded about 10 years ago and left it in a cupboard as a spare, it has not been used since. It will easily run 200 airstones, it's suitable for a large fish room or a shop.

Selling for $100

In February last year I sold about 200 Rio Branco to a couple of local breeders, I'm pretty sure that I also put some in the auction around that time. These are probably from that batch, I had a colony of 9 large adults that produced several batches of 200 to 300 fry at a time, all were sold in Perth or used as feeders.

I doubt that I will get pics of these as they hatch, it's unlikely that I'll be there at the time.

Here is a pic of some that Ronda found in the vegi garden a few years ago she helped some of them out of the shell, there were 8 of them.

I took a video the other day of one of them laying eggs but I don't know how to edit or up load

There were another 2 tortoises out there this evening both laying eggs near the other nests, it seems that 6 pm is egg laying time.

#364240 In My Back Yard

Posted by Terry on 29 November 2017 - 12:05 PM

I found these 2 tortoises laying eggs in my back yard on Monday they were about 20 meters apart, there was another nest about 40 meters away but the bandicoots had already got at them. I covered both nests with wire crates for protection. The hatchlings will be able to get through the wire.Attached File  26112017a.jpg   290.67KB   13 downloadsAttached File  26112017b.JPG   160.18KB   13 downloadsAttached File  26112017c.JPG   223.87KB   12 downloadsAttached File  26112017d.JPG   310.23KB   12 downloads

#361609 Hazards In The Hobby

Posted by Terry on 08 May 2017 - 08:35 PM

I have never injured myself while working in my fishroom but once when I worked at Midland Aquarium I fell off a ladder and landed on my back , it knocked the wind out of me and as I got my breath back a young well endowed  lass that worked there leaned over me and said "are you ok". I forget her name but they were lovely.

The angel in the banner at the top of this page has a deformed dorsal fin, too many spines in it. The photo was taken by Ronny about 10 years ago.

#361450 Do Blondes Really Have More Fun?

Posted by Terry on 30 April 2017 - 09:13 PM

Over the last couple of years I had a pair of angels that were throwing about 30 percent  albinos, the female was a tri colour whose great grandmother was albino. I didn't bother much with them but I usually got a few fry that reached saleable size, they were always smaller than their siblings but eventually grew to be stunning fish.

While I was closing down my fish room I decided to separate a batch to see how they turned out, I syphoned out all the fry and then picked out the albinos with an eye dropper I ended up with about 150 fry. These fry were then treated the same way as all other angel fry in my fish room except for the fact that they were a small batch and they did not have to compete with normal siblings. They did very well because as I sold off breeders I had lots of room to spread them out and at 8 weeks they were getting close to a saleable size, it usually takes about 3 to 4 months to get to this size.

All the fish were sold off at about 10 weeks to a couple of local breeders and should start turning up in shops soon.

In my opinion albino fry are held back by siblings but given ideal conditions and no competition they will grow rapidly and possibly out do their siblings.

I put all my adds on here, there is no need to use Gum tree or FB. Most of the people on here are good to deal with but I did have a no show from a Committee member, he followed up with a PM a few days later saying " I'm still interested " he was ignored.

#359800 Rip Mobile

Posted by Terry on 21 February 2017 - 06:33 AM

Hi All,

My mobile passed away yesterday after a tragic fall into a pond, it's weird how they keep doing that on a regular basis, I think it's programmed by the manufacturer. I have decided not to replace it, I can be contacted on 92747256 or tazwok@iinet.net.au.

Tom I'm usually asleep after 11 Pm

#359562 Wtf?

Posted by Terry on 14 February 2017 - 09:20 AM

They are Planaria,"they live in your gravel and when food is plentiful / conditions are right they come out and multiply"   :)

I haven't seen them in my tanks for years, when I was using beef heart they were always present.
