That light looked really fantastic!

Sadly I had to buy back my prizes off the kids but otherwise was really great afternoon. Great spot.

#347317 New Eheim 2215 Canister Filter Issue – Any Ideas?

Posted by Delapool on 29 November 2015 - 12:12 PM

Would wrapping plastic or glad wrap around joins possibly tell you where it is sucking in air? I've never tried it as always been good but just throwing it out. Sounds like you are getting great help from suppliers though.

#347054 Am I The Only One Still Doing Water Changes With A Bucket ?

Do you add enough seachem safe to condition the volume of water in your tank, or an amount to match the amount of water your adding to the tank?[/quote]

I add enough for the water added but I suspect I'm over dosing as it looks like it detoxifies higher ammonia, etc values than I'm worried about in tap water. But I haven't really tested that.

Thanks to everyone that set this up. Great night. The bumblebee catfish splashed all the way home. It was really good to see the variety there and was tempted on so many things.

Gosh getting old to be settling fish in at midnight :) Which I realised when I found part of the tank cover in the tank this morning.

Two cowboys in the old wild west are checking out a wanted poster.

'What's it say' asks one cowboy.

'Well, it says they're after a man wearing a brown paper hat'

And ???

'Well, he's also got brown cardboard boots, a dark paper shirt and blue paper pants'

'Go on' says the first cowboy. 'What's he wanted for?'

The second cowboy checks out the bottom of the wanted posted, whistles and says

'Rustling! He rustles everywhere...'

Cupcakes were superb!

Mystery snails went in, stem plants in a container in tank until I can sort out.

My thanks for a really great night.

#342739 Filter Outage

Posted by Delapool on 04 August 2015 - 07:30 AM

I've often left filters off overnight (or thanks to another Perth blackout had filters off) with no issues.

My thought would be it is fine as long as no smell when starting up.

I have shut a canister down for 4 or 5 days and that did have a rotten egg smell on restarting. Well and truly gone anaerobic. Cleaned out filter.

In the reading I've seen the bacteria will survive for weeks if not months without food. The lack of oxygen would be more of a concern.

#341913 Hello

Ok, it worked :) A little more. The substrate is fine gravel and must be several kilos of API laterite gravel in there now. Plan to keep adding more of the API laterite gravel as time goes on. Keeping an eye on other substrate though (but definitely won't do a tank rebuild for a long time). CO2 injection is just Ista gear with ph controller. Dry ferts dosing plus glut dosing. Phosphate and potassium levels I have fairly well stable, nitrates bounces around a bit sometimes. I had it down to 5ppm, then next week got 40 after I started a specific nitrates dosing table and threw out a bucket of foxtail. Oops! Was doing DIY substrate ferts pills but hard to find room to get them in now and a bit time consuming. Filtration is two canisters plus internal u4 (really for mechanical filtration) plus UV unit. The giant hygro I usually cut the tops off and replant so self sustaining now. It is a BBA magnet (main algae foe for me) so each week seem to be replanting and trimming. Lights were running 7hrs with co2 coming on an hour early (for two sessions). Just dropped it to 6hrs to see if the BBA slows down a bit. Edit - ps oh and there's fish in there. Forgot them :) They take no responsibility for the fish keeper.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

#341910 Hello

Hi all,

Sorry if you saw a heap of saved edits come through. I think I have the photobucket software sorted out and have joined this century.

The tank looks much nicer with the wood hood on but I've had to take it off to run the LEDs. I've actually switched the middle box light off for this as it's all reds and er, looks a nasty shock when not used to it. Hoping to sort out this year and replace the light.

Second link (hopefully) is of narrow leaf val, then some plant starting with "a" I think, then giant hygro in background and foxtail wrapped around the filter outlets.

Also thanks for the membership card - has arrived safely in the post and very excited :)

#341780 Fw Planted Tank Led Light Query

Posted by Delapool on 15 July 2015 - 09:41 PM

Many thanks for the replies. I'll check out more on the kessil LEDs. I did think nah, don't like them but can't hang anything from the ceiling anyways and ended up thinking they do look quite nice. At the moment the box lights just sit on the tank covers (tank hood removed) so it's a pain to remove the lights every water change.

Stuff grows I must admit but it's not picture perfect or anything. BBA is a constant threat.

I'll check out the Aquarium Gallery in Wangara as well. I'd like to go local if I can.

My other option that I have been eyeing off is the bml website but the aussie dollar going down makes that expensive as well. No idea why I'm not allowed a second tank :)
