I decided to try something else for a background for the 6x2x2.
I ended up with a very cheap, good looking (IMO), quick, and very easy DIY project.
I sheet of 6x2x2 poly 10mm thick, which I had laying around which cost me nothing.
A can of Matt Black spray paint from Supercheap cost $3.
Just gave the poly 3 coats at hourly intervals, about 5 minutes spraying time. Thinking of trying to add some "rocks" of different colours when I get the paint.
It weighs nothing, can be replaced easily, both sides could be painted different colours, or the colour can be changed to whatever colour you fancy for the cost of another $3 can of spray paint .
I tried a can of "Touch up" car spray which didn't work as it "eats" into the poly.
Judge for yourself, but I am happy with it.

Is the background flat?
Did the spray paint not eat into it at all?!
That looks great to me... Was the spray paint available in a wide variety of colours?
And did you seal it with anything?
Cheers,
Ben

heh, im all for the cheap backgrounds --- one of my tanks actually just has black craft paper & it looks great
There are a few people floating around marine forums that have used similar ideas to this to add the illusion of depth to their tanks, I will see if I can find a link...

I have painted many tanks in the past, but it is a pain when you want to change colours. Because some fish show up with different colour backgrounds you can just remove it & re-spray it . Toooooo easy.
