Righto seems pretty dead in here!!!!

Thought I’d throw a tank update in at nearly a year later.
Numerous thinning of Java fern, little bit of reaquascapping. Few changes in fish.

Update

Growth seems to to be steady. Little tiny bit of GSA here and there but nothing I’m concerned about I know the cause so just factoring that into the maintenance.

Scores a lovely pair of German blue rams for $20 and a red tiger lotus for $10.

No just chasing some large cherry shrimp! Rate as hens teeth at the moment that’s for sure!

Update….

Rescapped a little and removed stem plants as too much of a hassle with the herbie overflow.

Finally thought I better start a new one!

Mrs surprised me with a new tank start of the year which ended up being a 2nd hand Aqua one regency 280.

Well as most know it came with a durso setup which ain’t quiet at all.

So I gutted the plumbing and went with a herbie overflow.

Remodified the sump to suit the herbie and plans to run a CO2 reactor!

Fast forward the fine tuning of the herbie overflow paired with a jebao 4000 and a very finicky ball valve I finally have a super silent system!!!!

Inside tank movement is done with the outlet from the Jebao 4000 running at bare minimum so about 1200 LPH AND A JEbao SLW 20

Light is a Fluval plant 3.0



Got the CO2 dialed in within first week! Got a kamoer pro x2 auto doser running 2hr aquarist apt fert 3 x 11ml a week.

And an upaqua smart ATO for the tops ups out of a 20ltr jerry can!

Update of the surprise tank.

Currently cycling while I’m away.

New light coming and sump tweaked and full of equipment



Yep the sump level is high and so is the off level. Have tested it so many times but to triple check it was all good and I’m happy!

The herbie overflow took some tweaking but running like a gem now and super super quiet!

Sorry been super busy with work.

Tanks going gang busters and is dialed in now. The wife suprised me with a new tank over Xmas (winning) so will be transferring this into that.

Already just piecing the equipment together for that build, bit by bit.

After water calmed down.

Obtained some hygro off a mate and a few medium chunka of trident fern!

Dosing 2hr aquarists all comprehensive.

Will be adding some more khuli loaches and another Borneo scooter soon.

Any thoughts on a nice schooling fish that’s easy? Rasboras?

Righto!!!

Well finally after much gathering of supplies and sorting out a few small things, I have finally gotten around to swapping out the substrate and adding co2.

Tanks still clearing up but everything seems to be doing well.

Update!

Had some success with the peroxide dosing for BBA.

Lost a couple of my lemon tetras through my own fault, so lesson learnt!

Going through a substrate change soon as just realized the substrate I have is calcium carbonate based so would be helping with my phosphate levels!!!

Switching over to flourite black sand and will be dosing root tabs and LCA fertilizer!

If anyone had experience with the black sand please contact me let me know how ya went.

Hopefully set up the co2 this break also!

Tank update!

Everything seems to have settled down and is coming along slowly.

Will be adding pressurized CO2 in the coming month.

Still have a smallish case of staghorn I believe, but it hasn’t spread or gotten worse.

Maybe a small peroxide dose or excel might clear it up?

I was a little concerned I had too much live stock in there already?

As I’m new to freshwater. Kept marine tanks as a child.

Might have a bit of imbalance somewhere as this has begun to show up. Not sure exactly what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Had enough of the stock surface skimmer taking up so much room in the tank and just looking big and intrusive.

Found some 3D printing designs online and got a lady to knock this up for me.


Here it is inside the tank running like a dream! Still cautious of water level and stuff but will experiment with it.
