Hi there,

I am building a sump for my 200L cube (holes already drilled and PVC fittings made).
I'm rather confident with the plan so far but the only bump along the journey so far is that I'm not sure what size pump to get,

If anyone could link me to a pump suitable (preferably in a sponsers store) it'd be much appreciated.

The Sump is a 40L which I have yet to pick out media for so suggestions are welcome.

Cheers.

I would be going a bit bigger than 40L for your sump. Remember the more filter media the better for your beneficial bacteria as it gives it more surface area :)

how high do you have to pump the water up?

I was thinking that might be an issue, I have some spare glass so making a bigger one is no biggy.
I haven't built a stand as I haven't had the time as of yet. The stand is going to be 80cm tall at the tank is 2ft tall with the hole about 4cm from the top.
The sump will be going on a built in shelf (behind cupboard doors) around 20cm from the ground.

So I'm looking at about 1100mm of height from the floor of the sump to the inlet.

Cheers

I would say a pump the does about 1500L would be plenty it's not a huge head height so shouldn't lose to much :)

Thanks for the advice dude,
In your experience what size tank would cut it as a sump?

Also, what do you think of this setup filled with K3 and some long airstones running from one end to the other?
Probably wouldn't put the sponge on the intake as it'd be doing the K3s job for it, I'd imagine.

K media is great when it comes to being restricted to options using a smallish sump.
It's efficiency is probably double of that to common media,,,, being that there is never a dead spot,, having no highs or lows to effective filtration,,,,, just all highs.
Just remember you need a mechanical catchment also,,,, your K media is purely biological.
Though you may already know enough already.

Any suggestions as to what I could use that'd fit in the sump?
