Posted by Petert on 13 March 2015 - 06:27 PM

Looking for a few tips on a scape for Americans.

Tank is 600l.

The gravel may be an issue?

Have I overdone it with rocks, etc?

Anyhow, have a look and if you can see something I could do better, please lmk.

All fish atm are 3cm-5cm.

5 X Thorichthys ellioti

5 x Thorichthys meeki (Firemouth)

5 x  Aequidens pulcher (Blue Acara)

2 x Cichlasoma salvini

1 x Paratilapia polleni

Huge thanks to Robs Aquariums and Midland Pet for the great fish.

#307356 How You Feel After Doing Water Changes !

Must be something in the water Johnno. The little tykes have popped up here as well :)

#301797 Barking Dogs

The Bear Pepper spray for your neighbor? :)

The link didn't describe the dog chaser very well imo.

It has 3 controls.

Left button is the Light.

Centre button is the Expel, to ward off agressive dogs. Won't work on neighbors.

Right button is the Train mode. I use this with a command. :)

#301791 Barking Dogs

Posted by Petert on 09 December 2013 - 01:00 PM

I finished up buying another German Shepherd from a reputed kennel to help settle my consistant barking, attention seeking German Shepherd female. They're both settled nicely now with barely a bark from either unless they feel threatened, but still a few bad habits to correct.

Then, I bought one of these http://www.tbotech.com/dogchaser.htm to help train my dogs.

Mine cost $40 from Penny Miller (Homeware type of sales).

They do work to control barking with a firm NO, as my male Shepherd barks at the water reflections on the patio roof.

He still jumps on hind legs at the reflections, but hardly ever barks now, and if he does, a firm NO stops him.

My female Shepherds bark was mimmicked by the kiddies next door and she hates them.

Although they don't tease her anymore, she still goes ballistic whenever they're outside, but this device is helping to get her settled.

If you show you're making an effort, there's not much the ranger will do.

#301491 Fish Sucking At Surface - What Would You Do?

Posted by Petert on 04 December 2013 - 10:14 PM

Even though you've aerated the water by doing the water change, I'd still add an air stone or two.

Neon tetras are a pretty delicate fish and you must do all you can to keep them safe. :)

What size is their tank?

Fish swimming at the top rings alarm bells and I'd pump more air in the tank via air stones or venturi.

#301402 Natural Selection?

Posted by Petert on 03 December 2013 - 06:43 PM

+1 to Poncho's reply.

In my 2m Malawi display, I always have BB Zebra fry darting in and around the rocks.

I'm also fortunate enough have a 18cm Dimidiochromis compressiceps who is awesome to watch as he stalks the fry, then Bam, so quick and precise.

No fry are ever collected from this tank.

#300194 December Meeting : Summer Auction

Posted by Petert on 16 November 2013 - 04:38 PM

Handy sized tanks to have in a shed for isolation, hospital, fry etc..

The temptation will most probably be too much for Az to see them passed in, providing the price is right.

If you're after Placidochromis electra, give Vebas a call.

I'm pretty sure they should still have some.

#276230 Please Use The Pm Function

Posted by Petert on 10 February 2013 - 10:36 PM

Guys, it's becoming quite a chore to keep the classifieds forum in an order that's fair to everybody.

If your ad goes down or off the 1st page, it will still be seen, so there's no need to bump it up within the 4 day bump rule.
This is totally unfair to others who have advertised in that section and are doing the right thing.

When you have something to offer a buyer/seller, PM them without replying and bumping that thread.
There are times when a reply in a wtb thread is absolutely necessary, and we accept that.

Here are the Classified T&C's. Please read them smile.gif

RULES FOR THE USE OF OUR FREE CLASSIFIEDS

NOTE: Everyone please ensure you have your location added into your profile before listing items for sale or wanted to buy.

1. The use of the general classifieds for users wishing to sell aquarium related goods is limited to the undermentioned categories:

Fish bred or kept by seller
Second-hand dry goods
Products made by a PCS Club Member
The occasional buying and on-selling of fish by PCS Club Members to recover some of the costs

2. Please preface all new topic posts with one of either WTB: (Wanted to buy) or FS: (For sale) or EOI: (Expressions of interest) or FREE: (self explanatory, I hope).
Prices are mandatory on all for sale or expression of interest posts
PCS Sponsors excepted.

3. Please don't bump posts - ie. reply in your own thread, unless 4 days or more have passed since your last bump or original post. Bumping can include adding fish or items, changing the price as well as adding statements like "you have pm", "pm sent", "email sent", "nice fish" etc. If sellers want to add fish or items or change the price etc, you have to edit your original post if you want to do this within 4 days.

The only exemption to the bumping rule - if 4 days or more have passed since the last bump, then you are allowed to bump your advert back to the top.

4. The Classifieds is for the sale of livestock or goods by individuals and sponsors. Commercial listings by non-sponsor businesses or entities, or websites is not permitted unless prior authorisation has been obtained from the Committee.

5. The PCS does not condone the buying and selling of hybrids, dye injected fish and noxious fish. Therefore any classified that contradicts this policy will be deleted without warning.

6. The Classifieds are to be used for the advertisement of fish and fish related items only. If you have something which is not fish related for sale please use "Off the Wall" - Club Members of the PCS only.

6a. Club Members of the PCS may advertise goods for sale and/or their own business on a one-off basis, ie, no repeated postings of the same item or business. Offending posts will be deleted without notice.

7. Please do not hijack other peoples advertisements. This means adding your own "for sales" to other people's Classifieds. It is considered bad form and such posts will be removed.

8. The following should be in every ad posted in the classifieds:

Livestock
  • Name
  • Size
  • Number (if more than one)
  • Sex (if known, otherwise state "sex unknown")
  • Price or a ballpark figure
  • Photos (if you don't have photos, this must be stated)
Equipment etc
  • Brand (if applicable)
  • Age
  • Description, incl condition of the item
  • Price or ballpark figure
  • Photos (if you don't have photos, this must be stated)

Topics that breach these guidelines will be edited and or deleted without warning. Continued abuse will result in banning.

The PCS has a three strike policy in regards to breaking the T & C:

1. You will receive a written warning
2. You will receive a two week ban
3. You will be permanently banned

The Committee may ban a user without warning if his or her actions are deemed beyond reproach.
Records (strikes) of warnings and temp bans will be reset after 12months of good behaviour.

PLEASE ENJOY THE FORUMS !

#257060 P. Electra From Bradfitzy

Posted by Petert on 13 July 2012 - 10:13 PM

Thanks guys.
They've settled in nicely now.
They're 8-10cm and Brad said they've already held, so looking forward to some fry in the next few months.

Posted by Petert on 13 July 2012 - 04:37 PM

Hi guys,
thought I'd share a few pics of the P. electra I picked up from Brad the other night.
Fantastic species and I'm over the moon with them.
Sorry, didn't clean the glass.

Unfortunately, Brad has to shut down his fishroom, so if you're after some great fish at excellent prices check out his ad in the classsifieds.
Grab his mob# (no internet) and give him a call to see what he has available.
