Hi Guys,

I looking at changing my FX6 to an Ehiem 2260.
At the moment there are no real issues with the FX6, just thinking of putting the 2260 on and keeping the FX6 for another tank or spare.
This is for a 6x2x2.5 malawi tank.
I run 1 filter and do water changes no more than 2 weeks apart.
Do you see any benifit in changing the FX6.

Thanks

Peter

No. Based on the info you have provided I actually think its a bad idea. Nothing wrong with a 2260 but if things are going good with a great filter like fx6 why mess with it?
Best thing for an aquarium is stability... changing the filter wont aid that but it might hurt it.... so as I see it if you change, there is risk involved with no benefit.
Whats your motivation for wanting to change?

Thanks for your response Malawiman85.

I was just thinking the 2260 would be better due to it holding more media, even though the output is less.
I was going to transfer the media out of the FX6 into the 2260 if I swapped.
I was also going to use the FX6 on a 420 litre tank that I'm going to setup over the next few months.
Plus I will hopefully be picking up the 2260 for a good price.

Had the chance to get a few of these a while ago off gumtree for $50 each a while ago. Just get it and put it on the 420l, more suited to it then an Fx5.

Definitely upgrade to eheim! The media that comes with them is %25 better than fluval due to the surface area and the amount of media you can put in an eheim.. I don't like fluval with all the plastic compartments too fiddly for my liking..

Plus the eheim is lower on power consumption :)

Run me both for a couple months while the new one cycles then 86 the fluval :)

i run a 2226 on my 6ft and also a 2080...i dont think a 2226 by itself would be enough....on my tank...but i suppose it all depends on how many fish you have in there.

Thanks Guys.

Hi Rigger, I think you will find the 2260 is 60 watts and the FX6 is 45 watts.

I currently have 32 fish, most of which are 5-6cm's and thought the 2260 would be better in the long run.

I would be inclined to have both on the same tank, I currently have an fx6 and a 2180 on my 6x2x2 and haven't had a problem.

Hi Grack,

I would like to add another filter to my tank but I only have 1 inlet and outlet hole in the base of the tank and don't won't anything over the rim. At this stage the FX6 is doing ok.

2260 is a beast I'd do it for sure. It will easily handle the tank you want it for.

2260. You can modify the motor to give you better horsepower if you want the flow to be as fast as the fx6, but it's good on its own.

if you want to go to non-classic model eheims - 2180/2080 pro3 are good

Thank Guys,
The 2260 that I was going to buy fell through.
Does anyone know where the best place is to buy new?
