they are pretty slow growing I have a big one here im taking to a shop soon if you want to come have a look

most lfs stores readily sell several species at a decent price, gumtree and on here is usually 20+ cm guys.

Nah, I can wait... especially with the price tag of the larger ones!! know any LFSs that sell them around the Inglewood area?

So I got a Goldspot pleco, and does a brilliant job of cleaning the algae (a ton better than the bristlenoses)!! Its currently in my black ghost knife's tank until i catch the elusive Chinese algae eater!!

 

 

 

Thanx all for your advice so far i'm looking forward for more suggestions!!

Caught the bastared (the chinese algae eater) , it was almost 12cm!! Have taken it down to Aquarium city and I got a whole $5 for it  !!

 

Still looking for more advice!! please  .

$5 !, you did well imo. Well done on catching it, they are a complete bugger, took me over 2 hrs to catch a big gold one once in a much smaller tank in the shop once, i know this sounds crazy but there were some spots i just could not get to. It is still a store record.

Yea, I knew that it was going to be almost impossible to catch so I took out all of the ornaments and drained the water to about half in the beginning still took about an hour to catch the thing. What i found strange was that how quickly the trust was regained by my other fish; the Balla sharks and the Clown loaches were almost instantly happy to be hand fed again, they usually don't like me shaking up the tank!! Almost like they were saying thank you for taking it out of the tank  . 

 

I am currently acclimatising the fish you sold to me (the gold spot) into the tank. Still looking for more advice on what to put in the tank!!

I saw some Flag tails in vebas today for $85 ea, they'd look really cool with the clown loaches in my opinion.

Yea flag tails look awesome, they look like colourful balla sharks even though they come from oppisite sides of the world. Do you generaly keep them in groups like balla sharks?

I'm not entirely sure, I thought they were a schooling fish but judging by how big they grow I'd go for just the one.

Woah, that thing is MASSIVE!! how long do you think it would take to get that big? Have you kept them JackMack... its funny how that tank almost mirrors my tanks stocking: I have 3 clowns, they have 3 clowns, I have 2 Balla sharks, they have 2 Balla sharks.

I haven't kept one as of yet, so I'm not particularly sure on how fast they grow.
Yeah I noticed the loaches/ballas in that video and I thought it was quite an amusing coincidence.

So I think its kind of a weigh up between the arowana leichardti and the flagtail... only problem is that I live quite a distance from vebas! They should become a franchise or somthing and set up a store near me . Any other show fish people want to throw into the mix?

Seen him for the first time in the light today!! seems to be doing a better job at the hair algae than the Chinese Algae eater. Here is a pic of him next to a power head.

Yea sounds like a feasible idea, maybe silver dollars… but as for cichlids, perhaps one that wasn't going to beat up my clowns  . Was kind of looking for a single 'show fish' so the new top contenders are Silver Dollars arowana leichardti or maybe a flag tail. Cheers all for the advice so far!!

Go the Barbs!!

 

They are awesome fish when kept correctly. And as a plus they look WICKED when they school with Clowns especially the Tiger Barbs. I have always wanted to do a massive barb tank with a nice set up like yours.
Black Ruby Barbs are amazing as well.
