So I'm starting to put my feelers out for a new canister to replace an aging but still working Weipro. I like to overkill on my filtration so that if one canister fails the other that is running on the same tank can take over with ease and not struggle with the bioload.

So I'm looking at the Eheim range. Pro 2 or Pro 3.
In particular the 2028 or the 2080. The latter makes me feel all tingly inside when I look at it but is it worth the arm and the leg you have to put onto the counter of your local shop? It is also roughly double the price of the 2028...
Does it deliver? Does it give you comfort? Does it make you want to hug it it's so good? Do you want to give it a little pat everytime you walk past it?
2080 owners, let me know please.

Few things:
I am buying an Eheim. My AquaOne 2400 has a very slow leak that pops up randomly and I can't seem to fix it. I don't need this, I don't have time for this.
I am also pretty much set on the models, but have heard through the grapevine that new models are on the way - if anyone has info, let's hear it.
That said, any constructive comments are always welcome.

Help me out guys, what should I spend my cash on?

Some of the high-end models have built-in heaters. If I was looking at spending the big bucks then I'd want to get heating too smile.gif

Got one (2180 - with the heater)... then as a shop owner... why wouldn't I?? Well the reason I chose it is because I don't want to have to change the whole plumbing if I had to change the filter over a few years later... the tank is 1200L open top planted tank in a non-heated room, so the 500W heater was a bonus. If I needed a part for it (say for example: I dropped it), I'd have one in stock.. or on a Monday (when we are closed), I'd say Pacco would have plenty of parts too (and there are others NOR that carry Eheim too).
I had the choice of a number of filters, including Fluval, Aquaone, Jebo, Jebao, Heto, and others, but I still would not pass an Eheim for my own tank, particularly when "the livestock that depend on it are worth more than the filter". and so is the carpet in front of the tank....
And I am German too, so I am a bit biased to start with.....

Cheers,
Oliver

Tim... Pro 2's are good....... but not worth the extra coin over an Eheim Professional.
Your paying extra for the stupid plunger that you really only use to initially prime your filter or when you clean out your hoses. IMO it's not worth the extra cost. However they also have a flow rate indicator, but with a few Eheim bits any Eheim cannister can have one too.

Our Pro3/thermo at the shop has been running really well and happily the whole time we've had it on the cichlid tank, though I don't maintain the tank it does a great job.

I've only had a 2080 and a 2180 for a couple days, so maybe should not be making a comment....

But, yes, so far I do hug / pat them everytime I walk past them! Why? Just to make sure they are running!!

I believe the electronic models handles much less load, and would not have been suitable for me. Also, I am scared of the amount of electronics in those. And the 2180's heating is fantastic! I set it up in 18 C water, and you could see the temp climbing every few seconds. It is also holding the temp quite well in a very cold garage.

Can you elaborate? I have a smaller Eheim pro running on one of my 3ft tanks, wouldn't mind a flow indicator on it...

Aquotix staff: I did order the spare parts for the inside of the flow indicator of a Pro2 (the ball and spring part) - about 3 months ago I think. Haven't heard anything since.....

It's a tough one for me - on the one hand Saj is right about the Pro vs Pro 2, I could probably get away with a 2228 for $350. But the Pro 3 is shiny and nice and speccy!
Guys who bought it - what made you buy one? What was your train of thought?

i wanted a big canister and after having troubles with aqua one canisters i saw my other eheims were doing an exceptional job so i got the big and shiny and expensive one to do a 4x3x2.

I have 2 pro 3 2080 on my 1100L tank...best investment I have ever made.

I would steer clear of the electronic ones....more things to go wrong

pro 3 are the best you can get....don't waste your money on anything else, because that's exactly what you would be doing

Cheers
Dennis
