Hi there,

A few months a bought a trio of Thai blue grass off a guy on gumtree who had gotten them from fish chick,
They took a while to breed for a livebearer but when they did they didn't stop until the male was crushed by a falling rock months later.

Now I have 30-40 fry all starting to show colour and some of which are a very cool mix of purple and blue.
What I was wondering is, could this just be a colour they show as fry or have I gotten myself some free purple grass guppies?

Cheers

There is always going to be variances.
Line breeding is the selection of traits to suit a category or desired out come.
You could pick out the purple ones and line breed them.
Separate them into two different groups and line breed the morphs.

as guppy females can carry sperm from a single male over 3 or more spawns then i'd say your female(s) have been fertilized by maybe a red grass or something similar....

purple is a hard colour to secure in guppys... i have found it comes and goes at will on different fry and batches.....

if you seperate female fry before they get knocked up then it gives you a little more power in the line breeding scenario... if you leave it too late then you prob have multiple male fertilization happening.....

got any pics ???

Can't get any pictures right now as my SLR is at my girlfriends house.
I don't believe the guy kept them with the red grass and I've had them for 6 months at least.
I think I may and try separate them and see if I can keep the purple going & I will try get pictures up ASAP.

Cheers

Sorry about the lateness, have attached a photo to the original post.

They have gone quite red lately.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, forgot the name of the guy I got them off so I can't really ask.
Some of the others have much longer tails and less of the endler type torsoe.

Uploaded a photo of the male that passed away,
He has similar torso colouring to the 'endler' one.

Cheers.

I can definately see a strong endler resemblance in your offspring. Still looks nice though.

I have black bars and blondes which I have kept separate.

Although I have tried crossing the two and you can get some stunning variations.

Sounds very cool.
Got any photos of the crossed spawn?
I'll keep you guys updated as I'm seeing some really cool looking fry with oddly shaped fins.

Cheers

Would any of you guys be interested in purchasing some of these guys down the line? Won't be asking much as I know how you lot feel about hybrids  ^_^
I really like the look of these guys so I'm going to start selectively breeding them if I can be bothered.

Cheers
