Hey guys, recently purchased a L397 pleco. When I set him/her? loose in 6ft tank I noticed he had this white 'stuff' on him? I thought it might just be his 'hair' or something like that as some google searches of L397 came up with similar looking 'hair' so I ignored it.

The next day I was looking at him and noticed he had these white patches near his fins so I caught him and had a closer look and took some photos:

I then placed him in my spare 100L tank with a betta fish and a longfin albino bristlenose.

Anyone know what this is? I don't have a test kit but when I got my water tested last week ammonia and nitrites at 0 with some nitrates. Before adding him I did a 30% water change for both tanks.. I've only had him for less than 2 days.

Thanks for all input

I'm not sure if plecostomus are all super spiny like bristlenoses but I have one with a marking like this near his tale, it's a scar from when he got stuck in a net by his bristles and we eventually had to cut him out and my dad nipped some skin!

It healed perfectly over just has a white mark...

firstly nice pics - if everybody took pics like that it would make things so much easier....

looks like a superficial wound... lost a bit skin.... keep close on it over next few days anyway... but if water parameters and water quality are the best you can provide it should heal up in a few days... plecos are exceptionally quick healers if water quality is good....

Sweet, just what I wanted to hear. Thanks everyone!
Also, can anyone confirm the gender of that pleco?
