Their not cheap,, I haven't heard of any recent prices but would think they still wouldn't be much under $600 each.
Anyone know the going price at the moment?

How ever I missed out cause some one paid $6,500 for the whole eight, unseen! They were only 4/5 cm and I reckon that was a bit over the top. They were retailing @ the $7 - 800 mark at the time. I have not heard of any on the market up here since, at any price.
Terry had a half a dozen a couple of years ago, and I was hoping an aquarist of his calibre might be able to get them going here in Oz. That is provided he managed a pair out of his 6 fish.
I recently read a post on a German forum where a hobbyist there claimed that Zebra plecos were just a money printing machine. He had 8 pair breeding regularly and was getting
AU$25 ea for 3 - 4 cm youngsters Can you believe that???

Terry you'll be doing me a favour if you can breed them and sell the young for $200 each. I hope you have success in the near future and breed them like there is no tomorrow.
I heard you pay a lot of money for them but the prices have gone up since.

Although it must hurt those that has them aleady (Terry), but I'm willing to wait (after killing 6 of them in my first attempt with them a few years back - ouch ).

Any fish that sells for $50 in England or USA will sell for at least $500 in Australia.

Whether they are going to be allowed here is another question. Once they allowed zebra we'll see other catfish with similar look being labelled as zebra during import. I believe they are a couple Loric. with similar colouration to zebra.
I personally don't think zebra cat will pose a danger to native fish.

Even so, at the moment, H zebra is a desirable species here in Australia and I can't see the price dropping to "common" pleco range in my life time.
It is always going to be a 'specialist' or " I want and I can afford" fish here in Australia. But ,I think back to the days when a commen bristle nose cost half a week's wages.

Can't agree more mate. What I mean of "price drop" is from the current rediculus price of $1000+ some LFS are charging for a juvenile specimen.
I kind of expect it to fall to around $300 - $600 for the first 2-3 years of legal import until the locally bred stock become available. This is to compare against what's in NZ, where they're retailing at $100 - $200 NZD. There's probably absolutely no chace that it'll fall below the $100 AUD mark.

If the Zebra's are your most expensive fish, does that mean that they're your favourite? Would you consider them worth $500 each??
Cheers

I dont know if Terry considers the zebras his favourite lol but I'm sure his colony are worth at least $500 each!
Guys, it isn't looking good as far as zebras becoming legal imports go... The analysis was done and the wording in it was vague but mostly not positive...
I wouldn't hold my breath...
