Hi,

Just joined after lurking for a while. I am an expat currently assigned on a long term position in another part of the world so not been part of the fish keeping scene for a little while. Keen to jump back in and pick up where I left off.

I am interested in African Cichlids, particularly Tanganyikan's. I am also very interested in building tanks etc.

Looking forward to chatting with you all as I get a tank or two up and running.

(why the name Jason Friday the thirteenth? - because I keep coming back - they cant keep me down!)

Thanks for the welcome.

I've ordered 25 Blue Frontosa, 20 Calvus and 20 Compressiceps - all from Congo. So far nothing has come in. However they could turn up at any moment so just have to be patient. As well its the rainy season now so this adds to delays. Will be interesting to see what turns up.

With the Frontosa, I ordered 20 females and 5 males - all large size as I dont want to spend some years growing them up. I do have 1000L totes but I need to build an aquarium so I can see them from the side instead of just looking down at them.

Eventually I hope to get a fish room together.

Rgds

What are you doing to be posted in Zambia?  I'm assuming you want larger fish to not spend years growing them as you don't want to live there for many years :)

Hahahaha....yea, i posted myself here. Long time ago. How did you know I was in Zambia?

I want big ones this time around because the last lot i got (50 x 2-3" from Chumbu) took years to get to breeding size and as they were starting to spawn I lost the lot in a big power outage - I have an inverter and batteries but this power outage was a big one so had no power for days and we couldn't pump water or run an air pump. Heartbreaking.

What I've never been able to get to spawn are Alto's - plus after all this time i never realized they were so sensitive to water temp differences during water changes. Got a lot to learn on some species.

Google hasn't been there.  No street view, I'm not sure if it is a real place  :)

Its real. Chalimbana is just outside Lusaka. I live on the farm here - whole area is farms. We are about 30 Klms outside Lusaka and about 8 Klms or so from the airport, which is kind of handy.

Anyways, my frontosa did not come through. So fishless at this time. Will keep trying to some, but the locals are so unreliable.

I am sorry about your frontosa not working out but I think you will have to persevere with Tanganyikan fish as Malawi is on the map now with the net ballers smashing it at the commonwealth games.
