UV are great if you want that added secuirty, ask shane he knows a huge ammount on UV's biggrin.gif

Shane can you leave UV's on while cycling or will it kill benifical bacteria aswell? I might buy a 9v internal and UV for my discus tank, just wondering when i can turn it on.

Most of the time they are a bulb that water in pipes travel past. They are left on 24/7 and it is just a pump that draws in water and passes it back again.

The uv's are normally external and a powerhead just pumps it into the tube and back into the tank. But AOA (age of aquariums) has some interal filters with 9v and some 12v internals with powerheads. Your looking at about $40-$200 for a UV which isn't bad for what they do biggrin.gif
