I had some about 6 months ago. Their are plenty around if you know where to look. Gave mine to a friend to grow out until they are a decent size.

I've always liked the Emperor Cichlid but have never really thought about keeping them in a tank, If I had a tank big enough to keep them I'd probably do a Malawi Reef or Amazonian Jungle Setup and go Snorkelling in it instead!!! tongue.gif

I had am outdoor pond that was plagued by neighbours cats. angry.gif This gave birth to my dream tankbuster - build a big outdoor saltwater pond with a nice little reef shark.... Then we'll see who comes catches who... angry.gif laugh.gif The only thing stopped me (for now) was alot of friends had toddlers & stopping them from "petting" the big fishy was a source of concern. unsure.gif

laugh.gif Deal! By hand but, don't want the shark getting all stressed out by using nasty nets &/or hooks & stuff! wink.gif

This is closer to the size, it's a bit small but also an aquarium where I'm investigating a small swimming pool size.

Boulengerochromis microlepsis Giant or Emperor Cichlid

The biggest cichlid.. reaching 75cm in an aquarium and 4-5kg. Comes from Lake Tanganyika and a pair is recommended to be housed in a minimum 500 gallon tank (8 x 3 x 3). They are carnivorous... and i would only assume they would feast on most species including the mighty frontosa.. and have been known to flat out attack large turtles that come close to their spawning grounds.

They are sh*t hot

I'm sorry that I have to disappoint you, but no, my Boulengerochromis leave my Kitumbas alone. wink.gif Here's my 400gal with them, a beautiful Lake Tanganyika themed tank, housing the wild caught colony of Kitumba frontosas and my wild caught pair of Boulengerochromis Microlepis.

Arapaima ...cheaper, smaller, more effective against nasty cats biggrin.gif ...they leave children alone, while cats will be given a run for their nine lives.

I swear I am joking, a vet-to-be's idea of a joke, but whatever.

Nah, it's not that bad. Vancouver doesn't get cold at all, -10 in winter and in summer there's no need for heaters. Boulengerochromis and Frontosas are deep water fish, so a little on the chill side doesn't harm them.
