Hi all

I am talking to a guy who is able to import (CITES cleared and chipped) Red Tail Catfish.

He has quoted me prices and has emphatically assured me that all clearance certificates are provided for safe passage through Customs and into quarantine.

However RTC is on Grey List with, whilst with not the highest risk rating, but still there.

Has anyone had experience with something like this? If all turns out to be cochre just how hard is it to bring stuff like this into our great land?

Any experiences or advice would be welcome

Thanks

Theyre not on the permitable import list so sorry its not going to be a 'legal' passage.

Same deal with arowanas, theyre available on the market micro-chipped and with all the necessary paperwork but because theyre not on the permitable import list it automatically cancels them out as being legally importable.

Hi Krystal

How do I get hold of this "Importable Fish List"?

I have been through OFMIG's latest (I hope) but it only lists this species on the Grey list.

Thanks Krystal

I did see that list while I was trawling the internet looking for information on this, but did not think it was the 'this is it' version.

Is that the same list you work on then?

Is there no opportunity for application etc? If not it is a shame, and I now fully understand a lot of peoples disappointment with the current standard of the industry.

Johny

If I could get them, I'd surely let you have one smile.gif

Thats ALL we have to work with....a joke right?

Dont bother with trying for an application, it will get buried underneath someones desk unfortunately. The fact they also get huge will not help the cause.

Hopefully more people read that list of allowable imports and realise the positions the shops are in, we try to cater for everybody but are very limited!

Too true...

What we need are dedicated breeders to get our tankbusters back in the market.

I was keen as, and had priced up some great custom tanks for that RTC too...

The search will continue.

As soon as I am back in Perth I think I will seriously consider something large scale, if the government hasn't completely taken all the greatness out of our hobby.

Thanks for the input Krystal

pretty much all tank busters are goin to be illegal soon, if we could import these fish it would be better for the whole commuity its not like we are goin to release our prized fish into the water ways
who would seriuosly spend a fair whack of money bringing in fish to release them into the wild, beuracrats have no idea sad.gif

If you allow the general population to import fish. How long are these massive fish going to stay 'prized' by aquarists? not long. They will be a dime a dozen.

Better a dime a dozen rather than virtually impossible to find, wouldn't you say?

No, not at all. I would say out of all the members on this forum less than 10 could correctly care for an adult RTC. These do not make good aquarium fish. An abundance of extremely large growing fish would not be a good thing for the hobby, or for the fish.

Love RTCs probable the best fish ive ever kept ,More like a pet dog then a fish . Use to let me hand feed him and even pat him. But dam do the eat to keep up with there fast metabolism so they stay happy n active and not just sitting in the corner of the tank,1cm to 65cm in a year and then when they eat 35 cm pbass they get realy expensive to feed lol.

only bad bit is when they get to over 3feet and you cant keep them anymore or aford to what do you do with em

Wonder how many sponsers would participate in the Fish rescue if these where dime a dozen. I totaly agree with top 2 posts but would dought there would be even 10
