Spoke to Fisheries about this exact issue a few weeks ago. Silver Arrowana's are available over east atm. I asked the question if I could bring them into WA. The answer is as clear as mud. They are not on the noxious list; however they are a species of "interest". Any species that is not on the allowable import list, they can ask for a translocation application. They can seize the fish without the appropriate paperwork or if the application fails.
So to answer your question. They are not noxious; however you bring them across from over east at risk of losing them.
No help I know!

Tony

why would they put arowanas on the 'species of interest' list?... is there a clear reason for it?
next thing we know they'll chuck goldfish in there too.. what annoys me too, half the fish your allowed over east..
we're not allowed here.

Arrowana's are CITES listed and are therefore of interest to authorities. We allowed the same fish as over east, infact we are allowed some more species than many other states. The only issue is moving them interstate (Translocation).

so basically its all down to Perth's customs services, whether we are or we are not allowed to bring in certain species of fish?
i recall seeing an ad for aquatic plants somewhere, nice ones for cheap, but WA was excluded off the shipping list, and it was listed saying due to importing restrictions. They're plants.

i think Customs need's to concentrate more on people trafficking illegal items rather than us importing fish, for an ornamental hobby.

well to start you will need a quarantine area

i realy doubt one of the sponsers would bring then in at this stage, however you may be able to talk to them maybee pay all cost up front for them to do it and sell them off your self

Quarantine is only required when you are importing from overseas. Only fish on the allowable import list can be imported. Moving fish within Australia does not require quarantine. It does require inspection by AQUIS. this is free to private individuals so long as it ius within business hours, otherwise a call out fee will be charged.

There is a very good post by Andrea explaining how to do it : Link here!

I know of fish that have been left at the airport for 48Hrs and survived. AQUIS are looking primarily for Noxious species, Plants and snails. Any bag has any of these in it they are siezed and destroyed.

Jules, to answer your question. You can bring them in yourself Just have to organise with a supplier over east to ship them to you. It might be an idea to do it as part of a group buy. You just have to be aware that you take the risk that the fish may be siezed at the airport by AQUIS.

I have never had a problem sending aro's from over east to perth. They only check for plants and snails, even had a chat to one of the officers about them one time. No dramas.
