Hi

I seem to have air getting into my filter - every so often, maybe once an hour, it seems to be pushing air out through the outlet bar - you can hear it and see bubbles come out.  Any ideas on what could be causing this, could be the impellor or the seal?  It's a ViaAqua 650 filter, which uses the same parts as the Aquis 1000/1200.

thanks

How is the flow of the canister? If the flow is good and you can put up with the air bubbles once every now and then, then don't worry about it. Otherwise I would try and re-prime the filter.

Turn the filter off, take the head off the canister, and make sure the canister basket is filled to the brim with tank water. Then I would check the length of the filter hoses. If they are too long, then it may be a good idea to chop them shorter. Also might as well give the media a clean with the tank water while the canister is open.

Thanks, the bubbles don't worry me, was just concerned there was something wrong with it.  I cleaned it all last weekend and there was a bit of noise when I put it back together but has been getting worse over the last few days.

There's air getting in somewhere, I had an aqua one that did this, i found a simple fix with some silicon grease from a dive shop and a new o-ring seal kit.

You should always relube the seal when putting it back together when you clean out a canister filter to ensure it seals properly.

We had the same issue and finally found a pinhole air leak in the plastic intake tap.  It was a manufacturing fault unfortunately with the one we had.  Replaced it and haven't had the problem since.
