hi kristle for that sand try kinh i know he gets it in bulk from somewhere and is cheaper than most other places but beware it is very fine and can play havoc with your filtration system.

I suggest that you phone round the PCS Sponsors.
It would be the cheapest & quickest way to go.

You are right about the reptile sand...I have it in all my tanks and it is awesome!

I got it from City Farmers on Walter rd Bedford... $35/20kg...

Only prob is, they havent been able to get it for ages now...but i havent tried for awhile, so it might be worth a call...

If Midland have Tahitian moon for $40/20kg, id snap that up... Def worth the extra $5! Usually TM sand goes for $50-$60...

Anyways, heres a pic of the Fine Black Reptile sand i use:

pretty sure the tahition moon sand at Midland is $40 for a 9-10kg bag not a 20kg bag. Its how its always been

hey DR14GoNF14SH, how big is the tank in that picture and how many kilos of reptile sand did you have to use to get that depth?

that tank is 5x22x22...

from memory, i used 40kg (2 bags) ( cant remember if i added anymore on top of that, but if i did, it would only have been another 10kg max )

nah, thats what i have in my tank at the moment... its about as close as i could get to black sand for a reasonable price. its not quite black tho , like dark brown/grey bout 3mm rounded stones. its not the painted stuff tho... a bit smaller. but looks decent

I'm trying to get hold of some black coloured course sand from a supplier over east at the moment, gotta sort out cost, weight and if they can do it for me (as they are a wholesaler) But they takin their time to sort stuff out. I'll post up a EOI when they get back cos i dont need alot, but looks like i may have to order a fair bit. its not tahitian moon sand, not as fine. just jet black coloured big sand granules. Hope it pulls through would look good

i have some black gravel... (looks a bit purpleish) but hey it is yours for $40 if ya want it. Probably about 25-30kg of it. Enough for a 4fter... cost me $120. It is from an old tank... andd just needs a wash.

The stuff at Aquotix is definitely worth a look, I ended up getting it after a fairly thorough search. I think its got benefits over sand as it wont compact as easily, its not really pebbles and its not sand, its somewhere in between(its like tiny smooth black pebbles) it still looks great IMO and its well priced if you ask for the large bags. Also I was told by Aquotix that its a natural dark coloured stone(not painted) and it wont effect the PH.
