How did the Barra taste? When I was doing aquaculture, a lot of people complained about how reared barra tasted. What is the flesh like?

Tasted fine to me.
And the flesh wasnt mushy like everyone thought it would be either.

Used to hear the same thing Alex, in my experience though if you kill them right and put them straight into an ice slurry they turn out perfect! They only go mushy if you slow freeze them.

Ahhh, well mine went straight into an ice slurry for 10 mins, then got knocked on the head and gutted, then on ice.
Maybe thats why they tasted fine...

Hi Andrew, I have just purchased three byap growbeds to go with a 2000l tub (ibc's not pretty enough..apparently,....sound familiar (-smile.gif. Plan on using an ibc as a grow out tank. I should have payed more attention to your ap set up earlier this year...hind sight is awesome. Thanks for the info in your thread. I am planning to purchase barra fingerlings in a few months then trout when it's gets cooler.

Your barra seemed to grow well. How did the trout go? Any tips when purchasing the fingerlings?

Cheers, and thanks again,
Erica

I lost all my trout from oxygen starvation during the big storms we had.
Lesson learnt, get power backup.

Make sure you have plenty of air for them.

Get the trout from ferguson springs and you wont have issues.
Barra from Freo TAFE.

Barra are sooks, you gotta feed them before sunrise or after sunset.
They dont really feed during the day.

I am trying Murray Cod this year instead

If it was a month later I would have, but they were still pretty small at the time.

The most expensive photo I have ever taken.
My first go at panorama and I wasnt happy with the background lighting.
So I went and grabbed my remote flash.
On the way out I dropped it ohmy.gif And it doesnt flash anymore sad.gif
I'll pull it apart tomorrow night and see if I can fix it. Otherwise, this is a $315 photo.

I'm stoked!!!

Just agreed to buy this setup from ol' mate who has other plans not suited to an aquaponics system. Best thing is that he's also my accountant so if he wants to actually get paid for it, he needs to get me a fat return this year ;)

I don't think you have paid me for doing your return once yet.

I fail to see the threat here...
