#359231 Hybrids

Posted by tropheus on 02 February 2017 - 06:00 PM

I agree with Westie
There's probably no increase in hybrids, it's just that they become more visible on social media.
Whilst I hate seeing hybrids,
as long as they are not used as breeding stock or on sold, it's not really a big issue.
Culling would be done by any reputable breeder or genuine aquarium enthusiast, but for the general population they are just excited to have "fish babies". Yay!

#345399 Heater Leaking Electricity :/

Posted by tropheus on 08 October 2015 - 12:45 PM

I've had it happen 2 or 3 times over the last 25 years too, but with Eheim/jager heaters. I have only ever had Eheim/jager heaters. The last time it happened was just in the last week. And yes, I double dipped, just to make sure lol
When I pulled the heater out I noticed that the bottom had around an inch of water in it. There was no cracks or anything in the glass, so obviously the seals failed...

#345176 Altos Group Buy

From what I understand (based on other posts I've read) the inspection fee is a little over $60, but it is for every 15 mins. But I'm happy to be corrected if that's incorrect

#344273 Pseudotropheus Galanos Mbenji

I've never seen them here...
But as far as importing them goes, you need to see if they are on the allowable imports register https://www.comlaw.g...ils/F2015C00553
If they aren't there, then there it is highly unlikely they will ever be available. However, there are a number of species that are not on the import list that have magically appeared over the years... So, you never know

How about a thanks to the guy that bid $95 at auction (me), or the other guy that pledged a $100 donation to the Cichlid Preservation Fund? :-D

#343850 New Tank Advice

Posted by tropheus on 29 August 2015 - 05:16 PM

Are u sure it's a golden loach?
It's more likely to be a Chinese algae eater which can be quite aggressive with other species.
To answer your question clown loaches can go in most aquariums, they are very versatile, but are susceptible if water conditions are not ideal.
You mentioned your tank is new, in which case, if you haven't been running your tank for at least 1 month, your filter wouldn't be fully cycled. So don't add any other fish until then.
