Hi, I've got a large Blackbelt in a tank by herself and was thinking of putting a blue yabbie (i think it's a blue yabbie) in with her. The problem is my blackbelt is incredibly aggressive, however this could be due to her attempts to mate.
This blue yabbie will be sourced from my friend's pond which will most likely be treated with algaecide and on the bottle it says this stuff is lethal to crustaceans. So since it may end up dying anyways I was thinking of putting it in with my blackbelt. The blackbelt's tank has that aragnite sand and a large floating piece of drift wood. I would consider making a cave for this yabbie.
Is this a viable relationship?
Thanks.
Peter

When your talking about putting marron, yabbies, crabs etc. with a fish you are NEVER going to get a guaranteed answer.
In my expierience yabbies are more active at night or in subdued light and in this period most fish will sleep, making your black belt a sitting duck.
On the other hand is your black belt is as agressive as you say then the yabbie may become a very quick meal.
In most cases like yours the yabbie and fish MAY be fine but always be preppared for the worst!
Unfortunatlley every ones advice with come from personal expierience and what work in their conditions so the only way you will know is to try it for yourself.
I think it would probablly be a wise move the leave the yabbie in the pond and leave him in peace.
