So I open with agreement that most shark finning practices are monstrous .However when I see time and again fishermen up north that cant land a Spanish mackerel or other top table fish due to shark predation maybe we could do with deriving a bit more of our protein from them .and yes selling of those silly shark fins .This is a species and location specific proposal to be managed by fisheries as well as mercury and ciguatera concerns .But cheaper shark at the supermarket would be good .If other countries that have a relatively good record with managing their fisheries take this up it would be interesting to see how close this would come to satisfying the shark fin market sustainably some taxes might get spent trying to sway the Chinese away from this tradition of eating shark fin .I view this as pragmatism not hypocrisy.

No I opened up with what I believe to be a pragmatic perspective .Hoping to get a level headed impartial counter to this .This being for many a emotive subject possibly asking to much .There are concerns to me for aspects of this as well .No not trolling

Wtf?
Irrespective of beliefs held on shark culling, this is an interesting discussion that has strong parallels with game/conservation efforts around the world.
As for eating shark, what's the beef? Aus and particularly WA enjoy some of the best fisheries in the world so it would be a hard sell to get folks to pay for shark at the supermarket.
If legitimate opportunity exists as a by-product, to reduce the scale and profitability of the horrific traditional finning practices then... Well... Hooray!

At least there is a practical purpose for killing these sharks rather than fear generated by a particular movie franchise and a local media struggling to make a legitimate living due to free global online news "services".

It depends how well they market it. Shark is delicious if cooked in beer batter! I would prefer it over dhuie or pink snapper if I had the choice (cooking it that way). The issue is the huge sharks are no good to eat.
I'm sure some people would pay to game fish sharks if someone was running a charter.
