fronties eat leptos , that i know for sure

not sure why you would want Fronts as there pretty boring ( lake cows )

get some sand sifters ( enantiopus , xenotilapia ) , some featherfins ( Cyathopharynx , Ophthalmotilapia )and some leptos , thats a deadly combo

Gday mate , i will try and answer your questions
1. How difficult are X. spilopterus to keep? very easy , like all fish , you keep the water , not the fish
2. Will they get along Ok with the leptos and ventralis? , they should be fine , provided they have caves to retreat into.
3. Do they need much in the way of caves/hiding places, or are they Ok with a fairly open substrate? see above
4. Would I be better with just 1 male and 2 or 3 females, or are they Ok in a larger group of say around 8 or 10? (I normally prefer bigger groups). all xeno's should be kept in groups
5. I generally keep my Kh at around 12, that seems to suit the leptos & ventralis fine, is it Ok for Xeno's too? that will be fine
6. What if I was to also add 3 or 4 Cyathopharynx foai/furcifer of some sort? Would that present any additional problems? Would they get on Ok with the leptos and ventralis? , yeah it will be ok.... but a waste , i believe you should have 8 of one sp. or the other if you want to breed them and get the most out of watching them interact.

hope this helps

Cheers
