Hi everyone,

Yes it is finally coming on Saturday!!!

So in preparation BiGz and I moved my 6ftr to the other side of living room.
(Many thanks BiGz, really appreciate the help, I'll be available to assist with your Giant Plywood tank)

Fortunately the 6ftr is on wood look flooring so we were able to cut up some carpet squares. pop one under each leg and push the tank across the room. Worked like a treat though. using this method we did not need to remove the gravel.

During the move fish were in a 20L bucket, a 40L tray & a 60L bin with airstones.

We started refilling the tank and realised the temp difference was 6 degrees, too much for fish of course. Added a handful of rightstart crystals & a dose of dechlorinator too. Filled tank 2/3 and got heater and pumps running again. Fortunately have my 2180 running on the 6ftr as well as an fx5 at the moment with a 300W Jager in the tank too. Also had ducted heater on which made big difference

About an hour later the tank was up to 20 degrees at which point I used a powerhead to pump approx a third of the water from each bucket into the tank and siphoned in some of the cooler water from the tank to each holding bucket.

After 3 cycles performed over 45 minutes the tank was up to 21.5 degrees and the holding buckets down to 23 degrees (so less than 2 degrees).

So fish were added to tank at this point.

Catching my Festae was the highlight, my female jumped right out of the water in her attempts to avoid capture and my male was really struggling once he was in the net, powerful for their size, water everywhere!

Fish are all ok this morning so the method worked:)

Will post pics of new tank and cabinet with LED lighting system as soon as together & running.

Thanks again BiGz.

Spent all day Sunday putting the setup together and i am veeeeerrrrry happy about how it has turned out biggrin.gif

A big thankyou to Paul at Morley Aquariums who constructed the tank and worked with me closely.
Thanks for recommending your cabinet supplier, extremely nice finish indeed.
Ran a tube behind the textured background to run airlines through.

I welcome your comments and suggestions on gravel colour.
I'm thinking a mix of black and redish brown?

Thats a big tank - very impressive ! cool.gif

Can I ask what fish you intend keeping in it and type of filtration you will be using.
Also whats the electronic circuit board in the last pic for ?
(edit - oops just saw your other thread, must be for your LED project) rolleyes.gif

Thanks Az!
I blew the budget by $500 but I am happy with the end result.

I will light up the tank at night once I have hung the lights.
I need a fine day as I have to take off some tiles to do it.
Currently I have been resting the lights on top of the tank but it is not ideal as the beam angle of the optics is relatively narrow.
Got some stainless steel cable ready too.
Also thinking of checking out a hanging kit, Aquotix have them, just gotta get down there.

They are bright, at full power they are outputting the same as 10 x 60w globes but in beams.

Those little umbies are fine, one is heaps more aggressive than the other and they are separated because of this.

I think one of my other growouts is a female but i'll be more certain more in 2 or 3 months.

Hope that rtc u got is going well?

here is a pic at night with all lights in the living area off.
Stood the lights on some buckets etc. to try n get the ideal distance above tank.

Can you guess which is at full power?

The camera compensates a lot when it is too bright for it!!
The dimmer one is when lights are full power, weird hey!

Fish were photographed in the brightest setting.

Oh need some gravel.....!!

There's bucket loads of light reflecting back to the ceiling. Will be interesting to see if that dulls down a bit when the substrate is in.

Looks great, top job!

Hi Daz

Thanks!

Reflected light will be addressed by application of large flat mirror panels and the correct distance from the tank to the led unit.
Now gonna hang with chain so it will be easily adjustable smile.gif

Big b gonna get more coin off me.... the new Malaga one is my 2nd home heheh!

Will keep posting pics of the progress

Lovely tank!

I'm wondering what the light unit is that you are using as I am currently in the process of an open top tank and struglling to find a decent looking light unit. Also, can I ask where you got the background from?

Hi Brendon

Thanks for your comments!
Paul at Morley installed the background while he was building my tank .
It's installed really well too!
Once I hang the light on the weekend I will go hunting for more plants.
If you have any questions about the light, zap me a pm.

Umbees are good thanks.
The one you thought was a jack dempsey is a carpinte (Herichthys carpintis).
The one you think may be a bass is my female festae.
