i recently bought a test kit and discovered the ph of my tap water (in ballajura) is at 8.8............
can people from different suburbs test your water as i am curious of the values ?

NO NEED TO TELL ME I AM STUPID OR I AM NEW THATS WHY MY PH IS HIGH...........JUST A EASY TEST IF U CAN BE BOTHERED?

Also guys remember your tap water pH changes after about 24 hrs so pour a cup of tap water and test it tomorrow. That will show your true pH after things settle down.

It is important to recognise that pH should not be taken on water straight out of the tap. As Kieran said, it needs to equilibrate with gases, particularly CO2 at atmospheric pressure. This can be speeded by aerating a freshly drawn sample for a short time (about 10 mins).

More important is the kH or alkalinity, though for hard water aquaria where buffering salts are added, even this is of relatively minor detail.

It would also pay to calibrate your pH meter as that will also be a cause of error. You can buy buffer solution from sigma chemicals
