Anyone got any pumps, heaters, tanks, air pumps, fishfood or whatever ..

doing nothing in their shed ...

Please donate ... to Kelmscott SHS .. if we cannot use it .. My students will be more than pleased to pass on to other schools ...

I am looking for a BIG air pump if anyone has one lying around doing nothing! Something that could service 50 or so tanks... maybe ..

but I will take little ones too!

Thank you folks for being so generous .. hopefully I can make this all come together in 2007 ...

Hi again all.

John, was great to catch up again, and thanks to you and your wife for the marinated ribs!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that some of these donated fish are currently housed with me at the moment, so John can focus on the organisation, setup and cycling of the proposed fish room/tanks for when they return (as soon as possible) in the new year. Just makes it a little easier rather then John or fellow enthusiest to make the time to run around picking up or dropping fish off all over again.
I'm also hoping I can provide a few of the females with mouthfulls so they can see the maternal care the mouthbrooder mothers have.

After a good chat with John, I came to the conclusion that the kids are not just learning how to care for cichlids (or fish in general), rather they are beginning from scratch, learning how to raise them, learning about their natural habitats, dietry requirements and impact on different types of fish, giving them the best possible homes in which to live and eventually breed and also the education they recieve about the environmental impact any of these fish could have on our rivers and estuaries.
There is also hydroponics and aquaponics using fish waste and generally all organic fertilisers..not to mention what possibly heads out onto the "natural" garden beds and mulch bins that the students a: learn from, and b: eventually takes a turn back into society through the monies raised for charity.

It is my understanding that the fish from everyone form a basis for the line of action their Agriculture Course takes throught the year an I am very pleased to see they are being utilised in a manner that benefits not only the kids, but the government, the environment in the education involved, the charities, and I think inadvertedly it benefits and helps the society and Aquarists community in general by doing ALL of these things.

Just another mention that should go to John, there was some concern about the care of the fish over the mid term holidays and a bad experience he had giving someone else the instructions to care for the fish..I have been assured and have recieved a commitment from John that he personally will be returning during the holidays to feed and maintain the fish and their setups. I don't think there is any future need for any concern there.

So.. rest assured your fish are in good hands with myself at the moment, and again with the kids and John upon their return in the new year.
If anyone is not happy with this arrangement and wishes to care for them personally, you are more then welcome to pick them up provided I recieve the promise and commitment that they will be returning back to the school when they are ready for them.

I hope this clarifies a few questions anyone may have had and puts things into perspective a bit more.

Regards

Matt
