Just waiting for the bulrush and iris to grow in on the left of the pics and the monnieri to creep over the limestone and vacant boggy area around the rushes. By the end of summer it should be looking ok.

Not sure... I took a lot of the soil out of Wifey's garden beds so there was probably fertiliser in there to start with but I havent added anything to it at all. I have thought about it but everything looks to be going okay so im just going to hold off until the plants look like they need something extra.

you'll find that most ponds find their own balance of fish versus plants... more fish plants grow more - less fish plants dont reproduce as much.....

Woodvale fish n lily sell the large slow release fertilizer tablets that have a perfect balance of added trace elements as well.
Very beginning of season first beginning to warm drop a few in.
Around this time of year drop a few more in.
And that's it.

Usually if you wait till it visually looks like it needs it, they can struggle to bounce back if you don't give them exactly what their deficient in.
And if you don't select a complete balanced fertilizer then you'll get nutrient block out, which is when there's to much of one type of nutrient that inhibits the uptake of another needed nutrient.
Slow release balanced blocks are ideal.

Sweet! Interesting combination of fish.
I'd love to brick up a formal pond one day.

Couple of updated pics. Canna's looking a bit dull. Dont know if its a nutrient thing or if its because the water level got very low while I was away.

I put 5 goldies in there. They were gonna be some feeders because I was running low. Kids saw them and rescued them

Its not dull its Just the Canna's have lost some of their colour. Might just be an end of summer thing, I dunno. Going to add some fert tablets or maybe the aquatic osmocote, see if that picks things up again.

Cannas operate on a big rhizome, to get the best out of them you usually cut the flowering spike out [ right down low ] and reap the benefits of the new. The old spike has done its thing and it's all down hill from there. Looks fantastic mate good job.

I'll give them the snip when I get back then. Going to have to thin out the lilies before next spring too. Infact the only real problemn I see is how quickly everything is growing. Ok while it all grows in but could turn into a bit of work maintaining it :-/
