This is Ad Konings' new 3rd Edition Tanganyikan Cichlids book coming out in March. 400 plus pages, lavishly illustrated and 16 yrs in the making.

I have had confirmation it will be available for the February event in Perth.

Grab a ticket to the event from PCS and you could possibly purchase this book and maybe get it signed or personalized by the man himself.

See this thread for event and ticket details - http://www.perthcich...showtopic=59728

Something to consider asking Ad about on the 28th ...

http://www.nyasatime...awi-in-karonga/

(could our Mbuna become extinct in the wild?)

Apparently upstream there's Kayerekera Uranium Mine which was allegedly dumping radioactive waste into the lake... or perhaps had an "accidental spill"

http://www.nyasatime...own-mine-spill/

"The company had previously announced it planned a controlled release of surplus water into the local river system early this year, during the monsoonal wet season."

Apparently "government scientists" said the cause is ozygen depletion and higher than normal H2S/CO2 levels

"Prior to 1999, the fish kills were reported to have occurred some 40 to 50 year back, but since 1999, the fish kills have occurred lake-wide in the periods 2005-2006, 2010-2011 and in August 2014 and recently in December 2014 as well.."

Oh, and there's also oil prospecting in Lake Malawi...

"There could be oil and also gas both inside and outside the Lake Malawi as United Arab Emirates’ Hamra Oil Holdings Limited (HOHL) has hinted after  its oil exploration using a full tensor gravity gradiometry (FTG) survey."

So if on the one hand, we don't have Fisheries preventing cichlid imports post March-2016

There's the very real risk that we won't have any cichlids to import  :(

Tanganyika Cichlids in their Natural Habitat 3rd Edition

by Ad Konings

The 400+ pages of this long-awaited revision of the definitive work on the cichlids of Lake Tanganyika contain a wealth of new information , with more than 1200 photos, most taken in the lake, showing all the currently known species.  Based on more than 750 hours of underwater observations by the author, the information on the habitats and natural behaviour of these cichlids enables the aquarist to keep each species as naturally as possible in the aquarium, increasing the likelihood of successful  maintenance and breeding.

Available March 2015.

(Please note that to keep the price within reason this book is not printed on the glossy paper of earlier Cichlid Press publications.  This doesn't affect the quality of the material it contains, but we don't want our customers to be disappointed at receiving something different to what they were expecting.)
