Description

 

 

In the wild:
 
Pseudotropheus sp. "acei" between Ngara and Senga Bay in Lake Malawi.
In contrast with many other mbuna types live this not only by the rocky coast but also on the sandy bottom near the fallen tree.
There is some sediment, where this species also seeking its food in the form of the aufwuchs attached to the roots.
 
Pseudotropheus sp. "acei" is closely related to Gephyrochromis moori.
 
At Ngara people have seen thousands of individuals swim together.

 

 

In the aquarium:
Although this species live among the tree roots should not put too many tree roots in the aquarium, as this gives a low pH. Decorate instead aquarium with fine sand and more rocks and caves. An aquarium to Pseudotropheus sp. "acei" should not be less than 325 l

 

 

 

Breeding Behaviour:
Pseudotropheus sp. "acei" breeds all year in the lake. Acei is not territorial in the lake, but it may be in the tank. The play takes place in the shadow of the fallen wood or rocks and stones, while in the aquarium dig the small graves in the sand. The female is about. 21 days with the kids in it's mouth. During this period, females gathered in flocks and the kids being let out in the shelter of wood and branches.

Gephyrochromis Moorii

In the wild:

Gephyrochromis moorii has been observed in the southern end of Lake Malawi, and especially at Senga Bay.
 
It has only seen it over the open sandy bottom where there would otherwise not very many Mbuna cichlids living. It lives in small groups of 3-7 individuals, where the max is one male with full colors in such a group. Gephyrochromis moori prefer to live at depths of 6-25 meters.
 
Juveniles live, however, just outside the rock biotop, but are always on the sandy bottom.
 
Gephyrochromis moori seats of the loose material presented as there are on the sandy bottom. It uses its long, strong teeth to chew food items loose.

 

In the aquarium:

An aquarium for this species should be at least 250L and should be with fine sand and a few stones.

 

Breeding Behaviour:

Gephyrochromis moorii have a temporary territory where it is chasing other males away from. However, it has never been observed having a breeding ground for a longer time.

Colours
The male and female are very similar to each other. The variant living from Ngara to Karonga is more dark blue with black fins and a white border in the fins. The variant living from Nkhata Bay to Bandawe and by Luwala Reef is more light in color, almost purple with bright yellow fins.

 

Colours G.Moori

The male is light blue at the bottom of the body and the brown / orange in the upper part of the body. The female is brown with a yellow tinge and yellow belly.
