there are heaps - the best one is a sump filter builder and seller claims that cannister filters are a nitrate producer - that mainly because he sells the filters he makes and cant make cannister filters...... nitrates are a direct result of feeding - regardless of what filtration you have.....

Well I seem to recall reading that Bakki showers have some capabilities of reducing various form of nitrogen via degassing, so somewhat reducing the nitrate levels.

This could turn into a long talk, but I reckon good points to cover for each type of filter would be:

- effectiveness
- purchase cost
- running cost
- ease of maintenance
- running life

The presentation will be basic and cover different types of filtration and the pros and cons of each.

Just give people an idea of whats out there and what options they have......Matt will be the speaker smile.gif

Hadn't planned on the tranced.....Will see how time permits.

so will strong aeration - you can degas a small percentage of ammonia this way...... how much ammonia it degasses is dependant on water conditions and the amount of aeration..... de-nitrification with a bio-denitrator cannister is still the best form of nitrogen removal in an aquarium imo.....

The simple things are often the best - water changes and sponge filters!

Hope to see everyone there!

It takes you an entire day to drink one beer? And I could think of better things to squeeze than a sponge filter... biggrin.gif

See everyone on tuesday!

I was of course talking about filter mats that need squeezing dry.gif
I think the Q&A after the talk could be longer than usual....
