#353063 Is This Heater Kaput?

Posted by Delapool on 21 June 2016 - 12:10 PM

I've got a small amount of moisture or condensation in mine. Been that way for several years and still going ok.

#352961 New Meeting Location - August At Atwell College.

I do think this sounded a really good option and ticked a lot of the boxes. Great bit of work.

Travel time is a consideration and it would be handy if a rough finish time for meetings could be posted.

Nice photo! I'll hunt in the albums tonight (can't remember anything but need to find them first).

#352663 Fish Facial Recognition?

Posted by Delapool on 09 June 2016 - 07:19 AM

Who knew?! Be faster if the research person carried a fish food container I suspect - mine can pick that from 5 feet away.

#352637 June Pcs Meeting - Quiz Night And Movie Night.

If you ever get the African tanks let me know how you did it :) I certainly found them all pretty tough going on the questions - thank heavens for multiple choice. Fun though.

#352632 June Pcs Meeting - Quiz Night And Movie Night.

Posted by Delapool on 08 June 2016 - 08:52 AM

It was a great night.

Tired as all heck today but I can't think of a good solution as the second half of the night was a good as the first.

So happy to get 14 out of 30 on the quiz! Wasn't really expecting to make double figures :)

#352574 Funny Things You Have Seen/heard At The Fish Shop.

Posted by Delapool on 06 June 2016 - 08:42 AM

When I first started out I had water back flow into an external air pump. Rode the push bike over to fish shop and showed the owner with a guilty look. He took pity on me and said he had seen worse, he got a lot of them where people thought they were meant to work from inside the fish tank....

#352426 Delapool's 150 Gallon Tank

Posted by Delapool on 30 May 2016 - 10:02 PM

Whoo-hooo! Some decent pearling tonight across two-thirds of the tank (bearing in mind I count any stream of bubbles). Best I have seen around the co2 diffuser. Really makes me think I should chase up a line splitter and get the second diffuser going (sitting in a drawer somewhere). Sadly the plant debris is increasing again looks like.

Busy week, parcel of ferts arrived. 5 kilograms doesn't seem that much when you order...

The basil airbag (left side in photo below) I have no idea on why it was in there.

Cleaned tank of plant debris again. Sigh. Wish I could do better with plants.

New light out of the box to boost the quad t5ho. Now I have to look at increasing CO2 again but really hoping algae stays away and plant growth is a little faster (except the val, that's just getting to be a weed..).

#352378 Underwater Lights - Good Value?

Posted by Delapool on 28 May 2016 - 05:56 PM

So disappointing but oh, well - they looked nice. Still taken with the idea of underwater lights.

Popped over to Aquotix to get fish food and came away with a medium-power led light (I think, er maybe). Will see if I can get pics up later. So much for resisting buying more lights from this plant hacker lol.

He's a little too well trained now and gets too excited thinking there is food on the way. Managed to get a few snaps.

#352280 Gravel

Posted by Delapool on 25 May 2016 - 07:30 AM

Mostly I've gone with a coarser substrate. I've never seen bubbles (although used ugf's in the old days) so I assume there is some slight water flow. Typically I'll see something like bury root tabs at base of gravel and you will be fine, however I have noticed spikes in elements after water tests so that would I guess match the idea of some water movement as well. From memory I tested one API root tab in 20 litres (no substrate, just a bucket test) and that lifted ammonia by 0.25 (checked back against tap water as base line).

#352279 Photography!

Lol on my part. I was thinking 5cm or something - didn't know the scale. That's nice.
